Hydac PLF1 Process Inline Filter, DN 50 to DN 150, 200 m3/h
Description
Hydac PLF1 process inline filter with Processmicron elements up to 200 m³/h
The Hydac PLF1 is a single-place process inline filter in stainless steel for continuous removal of solids from low-viscosity liquids. It is designed for water, coolants, washing agents, processing oils and scrubber water at flows up to 200 m³/h, nominal sizes DN 50 to DN 150 and pressures up to 16 bar. The PLF1 does not use a bag or a cartridge: the Processmicron filter element is a pleated, graduated-depth element in polyester or polypropylene, with a very large filter area and a fixed support tube that protects the clean side while the element is replaced. Elements are rated from 1 to 90 µm. Seven Star LLC supplies Hydac products in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Decoding the PLF1 model code
The data sheet shows the code PLF1 – 1 – 2 – 9HF – V – E1 – S – C – E1 – 10 – N – 1 – 0 – 1 – So. After the model name, the first number gives the filter size: 1 for 9 in. High Flow or HighLoadCascade elements (with replaceable support tube on DN 50 and DN 80, fixed on DN 100 and DN 150) and 2 for 6 in. High Flow elements. The next number gives the housing length: 1 for single-stage, 2 for two-stage. The element code is 6HF, 9HF or 9HLC, and the orientation is V for vertical, with H for horizontal on request.
The housing material is E1 or E2, with duplex or super duplex on request, and the design code selects HYDAC standard (S), ASME VIII Div. 1 (A or stamped U) or EN 13445 (E). The connection type is G2 thread, or DIN flange DN 50, DN 80, DN 100 or DN 150 (ANSI equivalents 2, 3, 4 and 6 in.). Internal parts, pressure stage (10 for PN 10, 16 for PN 16), seal material (N for NBR, V for FKM, E for EPDM) and contamination indicator (none, visual, electrical or differential pressure gauge with contacts) complete the code, followed by optional features such as venting and drain ball valves, flange, clamp coupling and magnetic technology.
How the Processmicron elements work
Flow passes from the outside of the element to the inside, so the particles are held on the outside surface and in the depth of the multi-layer mat. The element is graduated: coarse layers on the dirty side hold large particles and finer layers catch small ones, so a single pass can deliver a good level of cleanliness. The three element designs suit different tasks. The 6 in. High Flow element has M-folds and is meant for working filtration with high contamination loads. The 9 in. HighLoadCascade has parallel folds on the outside and M-folds inside for contamination surges. The 9 in. High Flow element has a parallel-fold pleat and is the choice for protective filtration with high flow rates.
Elements are replaced when the permitted differential pressure of 2.5 bar is reached, and the data sheet states the elements are completely incinerable, which reduces disposal effort compared with metal-reinforced cartridges.
Working filter or protective filter: dimensioning the PLF1
The data sheet separates two duties. A protective filter guards downstream components against a malfunction of the main filtration stage, and the guideline is up to 100 m³/h of water or 50 m³/h of cooling lubricant per element. A working filter is the main dirt basin of the system, with up to 30 m³/h of water or 25 m³/h of cooling lubricant per element, and pre-filtration of 200 to 500 µm for water, or coarse filtration of about 3000 µm for coolant is stated as sufficient. A pressure loss graph for size 1 shows the loss across flow up to 200 m³/h for coarse and fine ratings. Always consult the supplier on higher flows.
Where PLF1 fits in a process or utility system
The PLF1 is installed in the main line, with shut-off valves before and after and an optional bypass, as shown in the data sheet piping diagram. It is used in industrial parts washing, cooling water and process water polishing, scrubber loops, and coolant systems, and the optional TRA design adapts it to parts cleaning systems. Related Hydac process filters in the same category include the PBF, PMAG magnetic filter and LMDP, so the correct member depends on the particle type and flow. Where a magnet is useful for ferritic particles, a magnetic option or PMAG upstream protects the elements.
Selection and ordering checklist for PLF1
- Fluid, viscosity, temperature and flow, to choose the number of elements and housing size.
- Working or protective filter duty, and the required rating from 1 to 90 µm.
- Housing material (304/321 or 316 stainless, duplex) and design code (HYDAC standard, ASME or EN 13445).
- Connection: thread, DIN, ANSI or JIS flange, and PN 10 or PN 16.
- Seal material for the fluid: FKM, NBR or EPDM.
- Differential pressure indicator and documents such as EN 10204 3.1 certificates.
Installation and element change on the PLF1
Install the filter vertically with the inlet and outlet isolation valves and a vent point. Open the vent slowly to remove air, and monitor the differential pressure indicator during the first hours. To change elements, isolate and depressurise the housing, release the V-clamp or clamp coupling, lift the cover, and withdraw the used element, which leaves the support tube in place so that the clean side stays protected. Clean the housing, check the seals and fit the new element. The clamp coupling and V-clamp options shorten this task considerably compared with a bolted flange cover.
PLF1 applications in Oman and the GCC
Desalination and water treatment plants use inline filters on service water and process loops, power stations on cooling and scrubber water, and manufacturing sites on machine tool coolants. In the Gulf, sand and scale are frequent particulates in water systems, and polishing filters protect heat exchangers, nozzles and pumps. Use the 316 stainless housing and EPDM or NBR seals for seawater-related streams as described by the sealing guidance in the data sheet.

About brand
HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.
Where HYDAC products are used
In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.
Ordering HYDAC products: what we need
Send the full HYDAC type code or part number from the label. For filter elements, the element code on the end cap (for example 0160 D 010 BN4HC) gives the size, filter type, micron rating and material. For accumulators, send the volume, pressure rating and connection. For sensors, send the pressure range, output signal and connector.
