Petzl NEWTON International Version Fall-Arrest Harness

Description

A lightweight full-body harness for everyday fall arrest at height

The Petzl NEWTON international version (reference C073BA) is a full-body fall-arrest harness for people who work at height on structures, scaffolds, towers and plant. Petzl describes it as lightweight and ergonomic, with colour-coded straps (yellow and black) so the upper and lower parts of the harness can be identified before donning. It is certified to North American, European and Russian standards – useful when a project specification names both North American and European requirements.

The harness has three fall-arrest connection points. A textile sternal point and a metal dorsal point attach a conventional fall-arrest system, and a separate textile dorsal point is intended for a self-retracting fall-arrest device. A red fall indicator appears after a fall on the sternal or dorsal attachment point, signalling that the harness has to be retired.

Selecting and using the NEWTON harness

Choose the international version when the harness must satisfy North American and European requirements at the same time, for example on a project with an international contractor. Choose the FAST or EASYFIT versions when the crew dons and doffs the harness many times a day and quick leg loop buckles matter. The harness is a fall-arrest harness: Petzl also publishes separate work-positioning and rope-access harnesses, so do not assume it replaces those for suspended work.

The instructions for use state a lifespan of 10 years and recommend a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months, or more often with intensive use. Before each use the wearer checks webbing, stitching, the FAST LT PLUS buckle and the fall indicators. In a fall-arrest system the clearance below the user must always be checked, and Petzl provides a clearance calculator on its website for that purpose. The harness must be combined with a compatible lanyard or self-retracting device, anchor points and connectors that meet the relevant standards.

Requesting a quote for Petzl equipment

Send the full reference printed on the product or in the Petzl catalogue, for example C073BA01, together with the size and the standard required for the site, such as CE EN 361 or ANSI Z359.11. Fall-protection equipment must be combined into a compatible system and inspected as the manufacturer instructs, so include the intended use and the number of users with the request.
