Chromium-compensating flux for austenitic and duplex stainless SAW and cladding
Böhler Marathon 805 (formerly Avesta Flux 805) is an agglomerated aluminate-fluoride-basic flux for submerged arc welding with stabilised and non-stabilised stainless steel wires. It is primarily designed for welding and cladding with high-alloyed austenitic and duplex stainless SAW wires and also standard CrNi and CrNiMo alloys. The flux contains additional chromium to compensate for chromium loss during welding, so the weld metal typically has the same or somewhat higher chromium content than the wire. It is especially suitable where high impact toughness and high pitting corrosion resistance are required, and it gives very good welding properties, self-releasing slag and a thin fluid slag with good bead appearance.

Handling and procedure notes
For stainless steel, keep the flux away from carbon steel contamination, redry it for the time and temperature on the data sheet, and keep a defined flux depth during welding. Chromium compensation means that the weld metal composition is affected by arc voltage and flux consumption, so voltage and travel speed should be held within the qualified WPS. For overlay or cladding work, check the required chemistry in the first deposited layer against the intended specification.
