Hach SC4500 Digital/Analog Controller
Overview
The Hach SC4500 is a microprocessor-controlled, menu-driven controller that powers and reads Hach digital sc sensors and, through plug-in modules, analog pH, ORP and conductivity sensors. Hach describes it as a controller that fits into an existing installation while leaving room to add connectivity later, without replacing the sensors already in the field. It keeps the same half-DIN footprint as the earlier SC200, so a panel cut-out or wall position prepared for the older unit can usually be reused, and the operator works through a 3.5-inch colour TFT display with a capacitive touchpad.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Hach SC4500 to water utilities, wastewater operators, desalination plants, power stations and industrial water users in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. Our engineers in Muscat help you choose the right input combination, output module and power supply before you order, so the controller arrives configured for the sensors you already run or plan to install.
How the Hach SC4500 Works
Each Hach SC4500 has two device connectors for digital SC sensors. The controller supplies power to the sensor, reads its digital measurement, applies the calibration and settings held in its menus, and then passes the value to the plant through relays, analog outputs or a fieldbus. Where a site still uses analog probes, a pH/ORP module, a conductivity module or their ultrapure versions can be fitted, and up to two analog input modules (0-20 mA or 4-20 mA) can be installed, with each input module taking the place of one digital sensor input.
Beyond the measurement itself, the controller carries Prognosys predictive diagnostic software on the Prognosys order codes. Hach states that these diagnostics report on measurement confidence and prompt maintenance planning with step-by-step instructions, which reduces the risk of unexpected downtime. Claros-enabled versions connect to Hach’s Claros water intelligence system for remote visibility of instruments and data, while the USB port is used for data download and software upload, with roughly 20,000 data points stored for each connected sensor.
Engineering Design of the Hach SC4500
The housing is a metal enclosure with a corrosion-resistant finish, rated UL50E type 4X, IEC/EN 60529 IP66 and NEMA 250 type 4X. Dimensions are 144 x 144 x 192 mm in half-DIN format, and the controller alone weighs 1.7 kg without modules. The data sheet gives panel mounting dimensions, and for outdoor installation in direct sunlight Hach requires a UV protection screen and/or sunroof, which are available as accessories. The controller is rated for installation category II, pollution degree 4 and protection class I with protective earth.
Two power variants of the Hach SC4500 are offered. The AC version accepts 100-240 VAC ±10% at 50/60 Hz and supports up to 28 W of sensor load, while the DC version runs from 24 VDC (+15%/−20%) with up to 20 W of sensor load. Operating temperature is −20 to 60 °C at low sensor load and −20 to 45 °C at full load, with linear derating between 45 and 60 °C. This derating matters in Gulf summers, so we review enclosure placement and shading with you before installation.
Key Features of the Hach SC4500
The points below summarise what the Hach datasheet lists for the Hach SC4500.
- Compatibility with the Hach sc sensor portfolio, so existing digital sensors can be connected without replacement.
- Two SPDT relays as standard, with an optional low-voltage module that adds four more SPDT relays.
- Five 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA analog outputs on each analog output module for PLC or SCADA signals.
- Optional digital communication through Profibus DPV1, Modbus TCP, Modbus RS232/RS485, Profinet IO and EtherNet/IP modules.
- Network connectivity options of LAN with two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connectors, external 4G cellular and Wi-Fi.
- Prognosys predictive diagnostics that alert operators to maintenance needs before a reading becomes questionable.
- A USB port for data download and software upload, with about 20,000 logged points per sensor.
- CE marking and ETL certification to UL and CSA safety standards with all sensor types, plus FCC, ISED, KC, RCM, EAC and UKCA marks.
Industrial Applications
Hach lists wastewater, drinking water and industrial duty for this controller, and those are exactly the places it serves in Oman. In a municipal treatment works the Hach SC4500 typically sits beside an aeration basin or clarifier, reading dissolved oxygen, ammonium, nitrate or suspended solids sensors and sending the values to the plant SCADA. In a reverse osmosis desalination plant on the Batinah or Dhofar coast, the same controller can carry pH and conductivity measurements on pre-treatment and permeate lines, and its relays can drive local alarms if a value drifts.
Industrial users of the Hach SC4500 such as refineries, fertiliser producers and power stations in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah use controllers of this class on cooling water, boiler feed and effluent streams, where a single panel position must often handle two different parameters. Seven Star LLC supplies the Hach SC4500 with engineering support in Muscat, and we can quote the matching sensors, modules and sunshade hardware in one package for project or replacement work.

Hach identifies every item by a catalog number, for example LXV416.99.20001 for a sensor or 21055-69 for a reagent pack, and the same reagent may be written with or without the dash. Send that number and the quantity. For analyzers and controllers, add the parameter and range, sample conditions, power supply, outputs and communication option. For sensors, tell us the controller model they will connect to and the cable length. For reagents, name the instrument and method so pack size and range can be confirmed against Hach documentation.Browse Hach products by category: Liquid Analytical Accessories, Liquid Analysis Sensors, Portable Test & Measurement, Liquid Analytical Systems.
