Masoneilan 35002 GR Camflex II Globe Replacement Control Valve

Overview

The Masoneilan 35002 GR is the Globe Replacement body of the Baker Hughes Camflex II rotary control valve. Its purpose is narrow and practical: it gives the eccentric plug valve the longer face-to-face length of a conventional reciprocating globe valve, so that an old globe valve can be removed and a Camflex dropped into the same pipe gap without spool pieces or piping changes. The Masoneilan 35002 GR is offered in 1 to 6 inch (25 to 150 mm) sizes in ASME Class 150, 300 and 600, and in 25 to 150 mm sizes with EN 558 face-to-face lengths for PN 10/16 through PN 25/40 flanges.

Why a Globe Replacement Body Exists

A standard Camflex II is deliberately compact. A 4 inch flanged valve measures 194 mm face to face, a 6 inch valve 229 mm. Conventional globe valves are considerably longer, so a standard Camflex would leave a gap that has to be bridged with a spool piece. The Masoneilan 35002 GR removes that gap: a 4 inch Class 150 raised-face body is 352 mm face to face and a 6 inch is 451 mm, so the valve bolts straight into the position the old globe valve occupied. Baker Hughes describes this as direct replacement without piping modifications.

The rotary design of the Masoneilan 35002 GR brings a second benefit at no extra cost in the pipe. According to the Camflex II brochure, the eccentric plug combined with a long actuation lever gives a 3:1 force multiplication, so only about one third of the force needed to stroke a conventional single-seated globe valve is required to move the plug against a given pressure drop. A replacement project can therefore allow a smaller actuator, which the brochure lists as a benefit, while keeping a linear characteristic, 100:1 Cv ratio and the Class IV metal seat or Class VI soft seat of the standard Camflex.

Engineering Design of the Masoneilan 35002 GR

The Masoneilan 35002 GR shares the self-aligning eccentric plug, splined shaft, triple bearing system and integral extension bonnet of the standard Camflex II, as described in the brochure. What changes is the body casting: it is lengthened between the flange faces, and the seat ring side dimension D is published separately for each flange facing. In the Camflex numbering system the body is identified as the Globe Replacement design, described by Baker Hughes as a body with extended face to face. Carbon steel construction is the material set documented for the EN 558 extended face-to-face version; other materials of construction are referred to the factory.

Three facing families are published. Raised-face ASME flanges give an A dimension of 184, 222, 254, 298, 352 and 451 mm for 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch valves in Class 150, rising to 210, 251, 286, 337, 394 and 508 mm in Class 600. Ring-type-joint facings add about 12 to 13 mm in Class 150. For European piping, the EN 558 versions are 160, 200, 230, 310, 350 and 480 mm for the same six sizes, for both PN 10/16 and PN 25/40, with a tolerance of ±1.5 mm throughout. EN 558 is the European face-to-face standard that was formerly known as DIN 3202-1 Series F1.

Industrial Applications

The Masoneilan 35002 GR is the natural answer where an ageing sliding-stem globe valve in a utility or process line is to be upgraded but the pipework cannot be altered. In Oman this includes boiler feedwater and condensate lines in power and desalination plants, hydrocarbon and chemical lines in the Sohar industrial area, and gas treatment skids where welded spool pieces would mean a long outage. The hardened trim of the Masoneilan 35002 GR also handles mildly abrasive services.
