Michell Instruments Easidew EA2 Dew Point Transmitter
Overview
The Michell Instruments Easidew EA2 dew point transmitter is a compact, loop-powered instrument for measuring trace moisture content in compressed air and industrial gas systems, covering a wide dew point range from −110°C up to +20°C. Built around Michell’s proven ceramic moisture sensor technology, the Easidew EA2 delivers stable, drift-resistant dew point measurement with a simple 2-wire 4…20 mA output, making it straightforward to integrate into existing process control and building management systems.
For compressed air systems, natural gas processing, and industrial drying applications across Oman and the wider GCC, the Easidew EA2 provides reliable moisture monitoring that protects downstream equipment and processes from the damaging effects of condensation, corrosion, and hydrate formation. Seven Star LLC supplies the Michell Instruments Easidew EA2 dew point transmitter to customers across Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, and the Sultanate of Oman as an authorized Michell Instruments distribution partner, providing genuine factory-sourced instruments with full documentation and technical support.
Measurement and Operating Principle
The Easidew EA2 uses a ceramic capacitive moisture sensor to measure the dew point temperature of the sample gas directly, avoiding the drift and contamination issues associated with chilled-mirror and other mechanical dew point measurement methods. The sensor responds to changes in ambient moisture within approximately 5 minutes to T95 when moving from dry to wet conditions, giving process operators timely visibility into moisture excursions before they cause downstream equipment damage or product quality issues.
The transmitter provides a 2-wire, loop-powered 4…20 mA output that can be user-configured to represent either dew point directly (scaled from −110°C up to +20°C) or moisture content in ppmV (scaled from 0 to 3000 ppmV), giving flexibility to match the output to the host system’s preferred engineering units. Accuracy is specified at ±2°C dew point with repeatability of 0.5°C dew point, and each unit ships with a traceable 13-point calibration certificate documenting performance across the measurement range.
Engineering Design of the Michell Easidew EA2
The Easidew EA2 features a 316 stainless steel housing, and can be ordered cleaned for enriched oxygen service as a factory option, making it suitable for use in oxygen-enriched gas streams where material compatibility and cleanliness are critical safety considerations. Process connection options include G1/2 inch BSP, 3/4 inch UNF, and 5/8 inch UNF threads as standard, with additional adapter options available to interface with a wide range of existing sample system fittings. The transmitter is rated to NEMA 4 / IP66 and operates across an ambient temperature range of −40°C to +60°C, supporting installation in both indoor process areas and outdoor sample cabinets.
Factory-programmed diagnostics continuously monitor for sensor fault conditions, under-range dew point, and over-range dew point, alerting operators to abnormal readings that may indicate sensor contamination or measurement outside the calibrated range. Michell’s sensor exchange program allows operators to replace the sensing element ahead of the recalibration due date, minimizing instrument downtime and keeping the overall cost of ownership low compared to instruments requiring full unit replacement or extended off-site recalibration.

Industrial Applications
The Easidew EA2 is widely used for moisture monitoring in compressed air systems, natural gas processing and transmission, instrument air quality verification, and industrial drying and dehydration processes. Its wide measurement range, and the factory option of cleaning for enriched oxygen service, make it equally suitable for cryogenic gas applications and for oxygen-enriched process streams where standard dew point instruments are unsuitable.
Across Oman’s oil, gas, and industrial sectors, including facilities supporting the Sohar and Salalah economic zones, the Easidew EA2 gives plant operators a reliable, cost-effective solution for protecting compressed air and process gas systems from moisture-related damage and product quality issues. As an authorized Michell Instruments partner, Seven Star LLC supports these projects throughout the Sultanate of Oman with genuine factory-sourced transmitters, sensor exchange services, and after-sales support.
Electrical Interface and Loop Design
The Michell Instruments Easidew EA2 is a current-source device on a two-wire loop, powered from 12 to 28 V DC and drawing no more than 23 mA depending on the output signal. Loop resistance is the figure that decides whether a long cable run will work: the transmitter drives a maximum of 250 Ω at 14 V, rising to 500 Ω at 24 V, so the barrier, isolator and receiver input impedance must be totalled before the cable is pulled. The standard electrical connection is a MiniDIN 43650 form C plug with the mating connector supplied as standard, while the Easidew M12 variant substitutes a five-pin A-coded M12 connector and adds Modbus RTU over RS-485 at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, one stop bit, for plants that prefer a digital link to the moisture reading.
Diagnostic behaviour is factory programmed and defined, not merely indicative: a sensor fault drives the loop to 23 mA, an under-range dew point to 4 mA and an over-range dew point to 20 mA, which lets a DCS distinguish an instrument failure from a genuine process excursion without an additional status contact. Where an intrinsically safe installation is required, the Easidew I.S. variant carries ATEX, UKCA, IECEx, TR CU and cQPSus approvals rated Ex ia IIC T4 Ga over −20 to +70 °C, and Michell publishes a list of approved galvanic isolators including the Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-CR-EX1.20200 and KFD2-STC4-EX1.H and the MTL5040 and MTL5041, so the barrier does not have to be selected by guesswork.
Sample Conditioning, Pressure and Calibration
The Michell Easidew EA2 is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 45 MPa (450 barg, 6500 psig), which is what allows it to be installed directly in a high-pressure natural gas or instrument air line rather than behind a pressure-reduction stage. Michell specifies a flow rate of 1 to 5 Nl/min when the transmitter is mounted in the standard sampling block, or 0 to 10 m/s for direct insertion into the process, and holding the sample within that window is the single most effective way to achieve the quoted five-minute T95 response. The sensing element is protected by an HDPE filter finer than 10 µm as standard, with a sintered 316 stainless steel guard of less than 80 µm available where the sample carries particulates or the filter must tolerate higher temperatures.
The quoted ±2 °C dew point accuracy applies over the compensated temperature range of −20 to +50 °C, within a wider operating and storage range of −40 to +60 °C, and each instrument is shipped with a traceable 13-point calibration certificate. Michell recommends a twelve-month recalibration interval, shortened where the application is mission-critical or the gas is dirty or contaminated. The transmitter weighs only 150 g and measures 132 mm long by 45 mm diameter with its connector cable fitted, so it adds negligible load to a sample panel. For plant operators in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah, Seven Star LLC can arrange scheduled recalibration and exchange of the Easidew EA2 alongside supply, keeping compressed air and process gas moisture measurement traceable without extended loop downtime.
