For gases with more than 2,000 ppmV hydrogen sulphide (up to 0.5 mol %), the manufacturer says the 24-month interval should be strictly observed and that the internal solenoid valve (CD2-21027) and flow switch (CD2-21362H, or CD2-21362W for the optional water dew-point channel) should be replaced at the same service. The quartz window O-ring (CD2-28469) must be renewed every time the cell optical housing is re-assembled. Analyzers with the water dew-point option also have a separate sensor, CD2-WDC-002, with a 12-month replacement interval, so both parts are often ordered together.
What to Plan for When Exchanging the Cell
The cell is fixed to the enclosure base by four M6 screws and connected by 1/8 inch sample tubes and its electrical connectors. Before fitting the new cell, a light, even layer of thermally conductive paste is applied to the full underside of the base plate, and both mating surfaces must be free of particles. After any work on the cell, Michell requires a gas pressure test and leak check at 1.5 times the maximum operating pressure before the analyzer is re-energised, so plan for a suitable test gas supply.
After a new cell is installed the analyzer must run a full sensitivity calibration, and the Cell Constant has to be set to the value on the calibration certificate supplied with the cell, so keep that certificate with the analyzer records. If the optical surface only needs cleaning, the manufacturer specifies laboratory-grade acetone or dichloromethane applied with very light pressure, and warns that the cell must not be dismantled further because this invalidates its calibration. A badly contaminated or damaged optical surface means the cell should be replaced.
