Speakman Optimus SE-1050 Wall-Mount Eye and Face Wash

Description

The Speakman Optimus SE-1050 is a wall-mounted eye and face wash with a stainless steel bowl. Speakman describes it as a patent-pending design: a dual aerated eyewash is supplemented by two individual face pads that together produce 66 individual sprays, so the stream covers the face and the eyes, not only the eyes. A paddle handle on the side starts the flow with a single push.

The wall bracket and pipe arm let the installer set the height, which is how the Optimus is made compatible with ADA mounting requirements per the manufacturer. The page lists a flow of 4.9 gpm at 30 psi, a 1/2 in NPT inlet and a weight of 10.38 lb.

Selection and ordering guide

The three codes on the Optimus sheet are SE-1000 (plastic bowl), SE-1050 (stainless bowl) and SE-1055. SE-1050 is chosen where the bowl will be exposed to cleaning chemicals, outdoor heat and impact, since the bowl is stainless steel. A combination version with a shower is available as SE-1200 (plastic bowl). The page notes that SE-1050 replaces the earlier SE-582-ADA.

Installation and operation notes

After referring to the rough-in diagram, pick a plumb mounting location for the wall bracket, mark and drill holes for suitable hardware and confirm the wall and hardware can carry the load. Insert the 1-1/4 in x 11-5/8 in pipe into the bracket, thread the bowl assembly to the plugged end of the pipe, keeping it level and plumb, and connect the drain outlet to a drain meeting local plumbing codes. Fit the paddle handle to the ball valve and connect the uninterruptible potable supply to the 1/2 in NPT inlet; the minimum flowing pressure is 30 psi and the maximum static pressure is 60 psi. Use thread locker and do not over-tighten. Cleaning of the aerated outlets and the in-line strainer is described on page 2 of the sheet, and weekly activation is required.

Applications in GCC industry

Wall-mounted eyewash stations suit pump rooms, chemical stores, workshops and laboratories where there is wall space but no room for a floor stanchion. The bowl is stainless steel, but the sheet does not rate it for any particular chemical, so check compatibility with the site HSE team. Provide drainage and clear access, test it weekly, and keep the 33 to 45 in spray head height printed on the sheet. The face pads add coverage for splashes that reach the cheeks and forehead, which a plain eyewash would not rinse.

For quoting, state the code SE-1050 and the quantity, and check the supply on site against the sheet before ordering: uninterruptible potable water, at least 30 psi flowing and no more than 60 psi static. The page lists a three-year limited warranty, so keep the purchase record with the installation date.

Installation and selection notes

Mount the unit at the correct height and distance from the hazard, with a 1/2 in water connection that supplies 4.9 gpm at 30 psi. Run the eyewash weekly as required by the maintenance routine in the standard, and keep the dust covers or the area clean. Check that the supply can deliver the flow at the same time as other nearby fixtures.
