Hughes STD-25K Wall Mounted Eye Wash with Handheld Shower

Description

The Hughes STD-25K is a wall mounted ASA closed bowl eye/face wash with an integral handheld eye, face and body shower on a flexible hose.

Eye wash and a handheld rinse from one wall unit

The datasheet describes a wall mounted unit moulded in ASA, strong, durable and resistant to rust, designed in accordance with ANSI and EU standards for indoor use and, where practical, outdoors in warmer climates. The integral lid connects to the water valve, so the eye wash starts when the lid is pulled down, and the lid keeps the bowl clean. The handheld activates when the eye wash lid is operated.

The eye wash flow is 12 litres per minute and the handheld provides 8 litres per minute, useful for washing specific areas of the body that have been splashed. A flow regulator valve gives an optimum flow, and the datasheet notes that modified diffusers can be fitted where low water pressure is an issue.

Using the handheld correctly

The handheld on a flexible hose is an addition to the main eye wash, not a replacement. It lets a trained person rinse a hand or forearm, or an eye of a casualty who cannot bend to the bowl. Use it for supplementary rinsing and rely on the bowl for the standard flushing duration, so the plumbing should support both outlets together.

The inlet is 1/2 inch male BSP, unlike the female inlet of the STD-45G, so check the pipe fittings. The supply pressure floor is 2.2 bar g, and for lower pressures the modified diffusers mentioned in the datasheet are the option. The weight of 13 kg is more than the plain eye wash, so choose a suitable wall fixing.

Hughes model Configuration Typical use
STD-85G Wall mounted stainless steel open bowl eye wash Plumbed corrosive duty
STD-45G Wall mounted ASA closed bowl eye wash Plumbed indoor duty
OptiWash 38 L wall mounted gravity fed eye wash No plumbed supply
EXP-18GS/45G Floor mounted shower with ASA closed bowl eye wash Indoor plants and workshops

Options and what to confirm before ordering

This page does not list optional fittings; the plain STD-45G and STD-85G pages list valves and a handheld that can be fitted to those models. Confirm the inlet type, the supply pressure against 2.2 to 6 bar g, whether modified low pressure diffusers are needed and the hose length and storage position.
