Brand: Hughes Safety Showers
Hughes LAB-23GS/V Ceiling Mounted Laboratory Safety Shower
Description
The Hughes LAB-23GS/V is a ceiling mounted laboratory safety shower that saves floor space and starts with an easy-grip pull rod.
A laboratory shower that leaves the floor clear
In teaching and research laboratories, benches, fume cupboards and sinks leave little room for a free-standing shower. This ceiling mounted unit hangs a high flow shower rose from the ceiling pipework, with a red pull rod within reach, and is designed to meet the European standard EN15154 for laboratories and ANSI Z358.1-2014.
The pipework is powder coated stainless steel in a green polyester finish, chosen for resistance to corrosive and flammable materials and for easy cleaning. The datasheet gives a minimum flow of 76 litres per minute from a 1 inch male BSP inlet.

Fitting a shower into a laboratory ceiling
The overall dimensions are small, but the ceiling pipework and the 76 litres per minute flow still have to be planned. A shower that discharges at that rate needs a floor drain or a bunded area below it, and the spray must not fall on electrical equipment or on the circulation path. The EN15154 summary asks for 400 mm clearance around the centre of the shower head, so keep light fittings, sprinkler heads and ducting outside that circle.
The same family includes the wall mounted LAB-23GS/H, the over-door LAB-23GS/OD and the ring main version LAB-23GS, which suit corridors, doorways and rooms where the supply comes from a ceiling ring main.
| Hughes model | Configuration | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| EXP-18GS/45G | Floor mounted shower with ASA closed bowl eye wash | Indoor plants and workshops |
| EXP-20GS/45G | Floor mounted shower with body spray and eye wash | Indoor, extra lower-body rinse |
| STD-SD-31K | Multi-nozzle cubicle shower, GRP enclosure | Full-body drench with drain sump |
| LAB-18GS/34G | Floor mounted laboratory shower with eye wash | Laboratories, light duty |
Options and what to confirm before ordering
The product page lists a shower sign and a shower and eye wash sign as options. Confirm the ceiling height so the pull handle sits within reach, the supply pressure range and whether a pressure reducing valve is needed, the drainage below the shower, and the green finish against room colour coding. No heating is included, so water temperature follows the supply.
How the Hughes LAB-23GS/V works
The LAB-23GS/V is a safety shower that hangs from the ceiling. It is connected to the water supply by a 1 inch male BSP inlet and stays closed until it is needed. When a person has been splashed by a corrosive or harmful chemical, a pull on the red rod opens the stainless steel operating valve. A large flow of at least 76 litres per minute then falls from the shower rose and rinses the body and clothing. The valve stays open until it is closed by hand, so the person can keep rinsing without holding anything.
Where the Hughes LAB-23GS/V is used
- Teaching and research laboratories
- Quality control and testing laboratories
- Rooms where benches and fume cupboards limit floor space
- Corridors and areas near chemical storage
- Pilot plants and small workshops
Selection checklist for the LAB-23GS/V
- Ceiling mounting with a pull rod
- Water inlet of 1 inch male BSP
- Operating pressure of 2 to 6 bar
- Minimum flow of 76 litres per minute
- Ambient temperature from 5 to 35 degrees C
- Standards EN 15154 and ANSI Z358.1
- Green powder coated finish
- Need for a pressure reducing valve and a drain
Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes
Fix the pipework to the ceiling structure so it carries the weight and the force of the water. Keep the area below clear, and make sure the water can run to a floor drain. Keep light fittings, sprinklers and ducting outside a circle of 400 mm around the centre of the shower head. After installation, flush the line, check the flow and the pressure, and test the pull rod. Run the shower at planned intervals to clear stale water, and record each test.
Requesting a quotation for the Hughes LAB-23GS/V
Please send the room layout, the water pressure, the quantity and the standard to follow. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.
LAB-23GS/V construction
The pipework, the valve and the shower rose are stainless steel, and the unit has a green polyester powder coat.
LAB-23GS/V size and weight
The unit measures 300 x 260 x 312 mm and weighs 5 kg, which is small for a full-flow shower.
LAB-23GS/V related models
The same family includes the wall mounted LAB-23GS/H, the over-door LAB-23GS/OD and the ring main version LAB-23GS.
LAB-23GS/V water supply
A pressure reducing valve can be added if the supply is higher than 6 bar.
Safety shower records for LAB-23GS/V
Keep the test dates, the flow readings and any repairs with the laboratory safety file.
Choosing the right LAB-23GS/V position
Place the shower where a person can reach it within a few steps from the hazard, along a clear path.
Documents and quotation
Two Hughes documents are linked from this page: the English datasheet for LAB-23GS/V and the installation, operation and maintenance guide for its family, both unaltered. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and prepares quotations for LAB-23GS/V and related Hughes models once the request states the supply pressure, the floor and drain arrangement, and the standard the project specification calls for. More site safety equipment is listed under Safety and PPE.

About brand
Hughes Safety Showers is a UK manufacturer of emergency safety showers, eye/face washes and decontamination equipment, headquartered in Stockport, England. The company traces its origin to JD Hughes Fabrications, founded in 1950, which began to manufacture emergency shower and eye wash equipment specifically in 1968, and it is now part of the Justrite Safety Group.
Emergency showers and eye washes
The Hughes range covers indoor and outdoor tank fed and plumbed-in safety showers, plumbed and self-contained eye washes, mobile safety showers and portable decontamination showers, built to meet EN15154 and ANSI Z358.1-2014. Models are offered for cold climates, hot climates and hazardous areas, and the company brochure lists ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification.
Hughes equipment at Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC lists selected Hughes safety showers and eye washes with the manufacturer datasheet for each model, so the configuration, water supply and temperature range can be checked before a request for quotation. State the hazard, supply pressure, ambient temperature range and any hazardous-area class when asking for a quotation.
