A direct-driven double-inlet centrifugal fan on a three-phase motor

The Soler & Palau CBM-12/12 1100 6PT C is a double-inlet, direct-driven centrifugal fan with a forward-curved galvanised steel impeller, fitted with a three-phase 1.1 kW six-pole closed motor. It reaches 8,290 m3/h at 900 rpm and is the airflow flagship of the three-phase 12-inch wheel versions in the CBM table.

It is a bare fan, not a cabinet, so it is built into an air handling unit, a kitchen or process extract box, a fan coil casing or a custom plenum by the panel builder. The catalogue supports that role with an outlet flange, mounting feet and an inlet guard sold as accessories.

Installation and selection notes

As a bare fan, the CBM-12/12 needs a casing, an inlet that does not choke the airflow, and a discharge arrangement from the unit designer. Fit the inlet guard when the inlet is accessible and check the direction of rotation on the three-phase supply. Use the reference decoding in the datasheet when ordering a variant, because a different motor or pole count changes the speed and airflow.

The 12/12 wheel also exists as CBM-12/12 736 6P C VR: a single-phase 736 W motor, 4,960 m3/h at 67 dB(A), 26.5 kg and a capacitor of 20 microfarad at 450 V. Pick the three-phase 1100 when airflow of more than 8,000 m3/h and a three-phase board are available. The datasheet states three-phase motors are suitable for frequency inverter control.

The fan impeller is dynamically balanced according to ISO 1940 and the motor support has rubber anti-vibration mounts. Mounting feet allow three outlet positions: LG 0, LG 90 and LG 180.

Commissioning and selection checklist

Because the fan is supplied without a cabinet, the builder must provide the scroll outlet connection, the inlet access and an electrical enclosure. The reference field for outlet flange (B8, B9, B10, B11, B5, B7 and BE variants) tells you whether S&P supplies the fan with a coupling flange already fitted; otherwise the accessory flange above is fitted on site.

Compare the 8.5 A (230 V) and 4.9 A (400 V) currents with the star or delta connection chosen, and confirm the 230/400 V motor is wired for the available supply. The printed maximum airflow is a catalogue point; the working point comes from the system pressure and the performance curve for the CBM-12/12 1100 6PT C.

Direct-driven centrifugal fans of this kind serve air handling sections, kitchen extract plenums, dust-free ventilation boxes and general supply or extract in commercial buildings and workshops. The catalogue lists a kitchen version on request (IP55, class F), a sign that grease-laden air duties are within the intended range, but standard CBM units have a 40 degC maximum temperature as printed. The fan itself carries no ATEX marking in the data we fetched.
