Greenheck AE-18-433-A10 Axial Hooded Propeller Roof Exhaust Fan

Description

A low-cost roof exhaust fan for clean air

The Greenheck AE-18-433-A10 is a size 18 model AE (axial exhaust) from Series A, the economical spun aluminum, direct drive propeller roof fan range. Series A suits low-pressure, low-volume general ventilation of clean air: up to 6,000 cfm (10,200 m3/h) and 1.0 in. wg (250 Pa), in seven sizes with 10 to 24 in. (254 to 610 mm) propellers. The sibling AS is the supply version of the same design.

Greenheck notes a steeply pitched die-formed aluminum blade that gives lower sound than traditional propeller fans, and positions the AE against centrifugal fans as less expensive and easier to install and maintain. Typical places are schools, offices, manufacturing sites, hospitals, apartment buildings and airports.

Features from the catalogue

  • Fabricated aluminum propeller, statically and dynamically balanced, designed for low rpm and low sound.
  • NEMA-1 switch included with wiring from the motor; other switches optional.
  • Motor mounted in the airstream on vibration isolators and covered by an aluminum motor cover fixed with stainless steel hardware.
  • One-piece heavy-gauge aluminum shroud with rolled bead, aluminum curb cap with a deep spun venturi inlet, and 1/2 in. galvanized birdscreen.
  • Large internal conduit chase for wiring through the curb cap; stamped aluminum nameplate.
  • AMCA licensed for sound and air performance; UL/cUL 705 listed for electrical (file E40001).

Selecting within Series A

Catalogue code Motor and free-air flow
AE-10-420-A8 1/8 hp, 1750 rpm, 550 cfm free air
AE-12-433-A4 1/4 hp, 1750 rpm, 1,556 cfm
AE-14-438-A5 1/2 hp, 1750 rpm, 2,457 cfm
AE-16-428-A5 1/2 hp, 1750 rpm, 3,068 cfm
AE-18-433-A10 1 hp, 1750 rpm, 4,578 cfm
AE-20-430-A15 1-1/2 hp, 1750 rpm, 5,943 cfm

The 1140 rpm B codes, such as AE-18-433-B3 at 2,982 cfm, trade flow for lower sound. All motors are compatible with a speed controller except the A speed motors on the size 20.

Where the AE fits and where it does not

Series A is positioned in the catalogue for general clean air ventilation, and the printed performance is for free inlet and free outlet with a birdscreen. The 1140 rpm versions trade volume for quiet: AE-12-433-B6 gives 1,014 cfm at 5.1 sones, while AE-12-433-A4 at 1750 rpm gives 1,556 cfm at 9.0 sones (both at 0 in. wg). The catalogue does not describe the AE for grease, high temperature or smoke control duty, so use another Greenheck model when the exhaust is hot, greasy or part of a smoke system.

Installation notes

Install with a means of inspecting and cleaning the fan. When roofing material runs to the top of the curb, make the roof curb 1-1/2 in. smaller than the curb cap to leave room for flashing. Curb caps have 5/16 in. prepunched mounting holes. Optional accessories are roof curbs, curb extensions, aluminum birdscreen, gravity or motorized dampers, speed controllers and a range of NEMA disconnects. Related fans are in our HVAC and combustion category.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the supply voltage and phase for the 1 hp motor, whether a damper and speed controller are needed, the roof curb height, and the birdscreen material. The data is for free inlet and free outlet, so ductwork or dampers will lower the flow shown.

Information to send with an RFQ for the Greenheck AE-18-433-A10 Axial Hooded Propeller Roof Exhaust Fan

Fans are selected on the duty point, not on the model name. For the Greenheck AE-18-433-A10 Axial Hooded Propeller Roof Exhaust Fan, give the required airflow, the static pressure the fan must overcome, the air temperature and density, and whether the fan supplies or exhausts air. Mention the motor supply voltage, phase and frequency; 415 V / 3 ph / 50 Hz is common on GCC sites.

  • Installation position and the roof curb, wall opening or duct connection available.
  • Accessories: dampers, guards, speed control or variable frequency drive, and vibration isolation.
  • Sound limits for nearby offices or residential areas.
  • Ambient conditions: high temperature, dust, sand or corrosive air near the coast.

With a duty point and these details, the fan size, wheel and motor can be confirmed from the manufacturer’s selection data before a quotation is issued.
