Meinberg LANTIME M500 Modular DIN-Rail Time Server

Description

The Meinberg LANTIME M500 is a modular time and frequency synchronisation system in a DIN-rail chassis, part of Meinberg’s IMS (Intelligent Modular Synchronization) platform. One housing holds a power supply, a reference clock module, a CPU module and two slots for input or output modules, so the same unit can act as an NTP server, a PTP source, an IRIG or pulse generator or a telecom synchronisation source. With up to 6,000 NTP requests per second it can serve hundreds or thousands of clients.

How the module concept works

All modules are hot-plug capable and are configured through the central web interface of the CPU module, so a system can grow without replacing the chassis. Choose the reference clock for the satellite or time-code source, then add input modules for IRIG, PPS or 10 MHz references, or output modules for time codes, pulses, frequencies and extra network ports. The datasheet notes that the MRI and ESI slots can serve as either input or output, which is useful in substations that need both a legacy IRIG-B feed and an Ethernet time service.

Planning an order

Define the reference source first, then list every output the site needs: NTP ports, PTP, IRIG-B, pulses or serial strings. Choose the oscillator to match the accuracy target, since the datasheet quotes pulse accuracy below plus or minus 50 ns for the OCXO and rubidium options. Select the AC/DC or low-voltage DC supply to match the station power, and confirm whether PRP networks or SFP fibre ports are needed. The rack-mounted Meinberg LANTIME M1000 offers the same IMS concept in a 1U rack chassis, while compact DIN-rail NTP-only needs are covered by simpler models listed under industrial communications.

About brand

Substations, telecom nodes and data centers need every device to agree on the time, and Meinberg time servers are a common way to do it. Meinberg Funkuhren, founded in 1979 in Bad Pyrmont, Germany, builds NTP and PTP time servers, GNSS receivers and signal distribution equipment. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Meinberg LANTIME time servers for utilities and networks in Oman, including the M1000 and M320 listed here.

Meinberg LANTIME models listed here

The LANTIME M320 is a 1U rackmount NTP time server. It works as a stratum 1 source with its own reference receiver, and Meinberg offers it with GPS, combined GNSS, DCF77 (PZF), MSF and IRIG time code references. The LANTIME M1000 is a 1U platform on the modular IMS system, with slots for up to two reference clocks, two power supplies and hot-pluggable I/O modules, plus PTP (IEEE 1588) and IEC 61850 time synchronization.

Ordering a Meinberg time server: what we need

A Meinberg order code describes the build. In M320/GPS/AD10, GPS is the receiver and AD10 is the wide-range AC/DC power supply. Send the full code or serial number, the reference source, oscillator option, supply voltage, the outputs you need (PPS, 10 MHz, IRIG, extra LAN ports) and the antenna cable length. GCC utility projects often require redundant supplies.
