Brand: Lantronix
Lantronix M114B00FS M110 Series LTE Cat 1 bis Cellular Modem
Description
A serial and USB cellular modem for meters, PLCs and remote equipment
The Lantronix M114B00FS is the LTE Cat 1 bis member of the M110 series of industrial cellular modems, listed for EMEA, Latin America and India with LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 66, 38, 40 and 41 and 2G fall-back. It adds a cellular connection to equipment that has only a serial port: a full RS-232 interface on a 9-pin sub-D connector and a USB 2.0 Type-C port feed an on-board microcontroller running the mPack software suite, and two versatile I/O points can read an analogue voltage or switch an open-collector output.
The modem is housed in a brushed aluminium case measuring 60 x 66 x 21.7 mm (without connectors) and weighing about 95 g. The manufacturer lists smart metering, oil and gas monitoring, POS and kiosk, industrial automation, lifts and vending machines as typical hosts. A low idle power draw, 0.15 W for the M114B at the worst-case corner, allows battery or solar powered devices to stay connected for long periods.

Which M110 model is M114B00FS
The bulletin lists three SKUs: M113F00FS (worldwide, LTE-M1 and NB-IoT on bands 12, 28, 13, 20, 26, 8, 3, 4, 25 and 1), M113F002S (same with 2G fall-back) and M114B00FS (EMEA, LATAM and India, LTE Cat 1 bis). The user guide gives the maximum LTE Cat 1 data rates as 5.2 Mbps up and 10.3 Mbps down, and the M113 LTE-M1 rate as 375 kbps in each direction. Pick the M114B Cat 1 bis code when throughput above LTE-M speeds is needed for telemetry, SCADA polling or small video or file transfers.
Check that the local operator supports the listed bands. The bulletin names the power cord, antenna and DIN-rail clip as essential accessories without saying they ship with the modem, so confirm what is included and order the items you need. See the industrial communications category for related gateways and routers.
Installation and first communication test
Insert the mini-SIM into the side tray with the chip facing up, screw the SMA antenna on clockwise, connect the RS-232 cable and tighten both thumb knobs, and apply 8 to 32 VDC through the Micro-Fit connector. Two LEDs show the state: the amber LED is solid when a cellular connection is established and blinks during data transfer, and the green LED indicates signal strength (solid for CSQ above 10, fast blinking for 4 to 9, slow blinking for no signal).
For the first test, set a terminal program on the host to 115200 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control, then send AT and expect OK. Echo is off by default (ATE0) and the guide recommends leaving it off in machine-to-machine use. Keep the antenna away from metal boxes and at least 26.6 cm from people, as the guide advises, and do not use the modem where RF equipment is prohibited.
Applications in remote and low-power sites
The 8 to 32 VDC input suits solar and battery cabinets, and the low idle current supports devices that wake only when a message arrives; the bulletin claims up to a month of autonomy in that mode, which depends on battery size and traffic. In oil, gas and utility sites the modem can retrofit an existing RTU, meter or PLC with a cellular uplink without changing the equipment. Remember that cellular service, SIM provisioning and any local radio approval are the buyer’s responsibility.
