Lantronix SM24TAT2SA-UK 24-Port Gigabit PoE+ Smart Switch
Description
A 370 W PoE+ switch for cameras, access points and building systems
The Lantronix SM24TAT2SA-UK is the 24-port member of the SMxTAT2SA smart managed gigabit PoE+ switch family, ordered with the UK power cord (the -UK suffix is the country code the bulletin uses for the cord). It provides twenty-four 10/100/1000Base-T RJ45 ports that can all deliver PoE or PoE+, two 100/1000Base-X SFP slots for fibre or copper uplinks, a 52 Gbps backplane and a 370 W PoE budget. It is a fan-less 1U switch that ships with 19-inch rack-mount brackets.
The manufacturer positions the series for IP surveillance, wireless access points and smart building systems. Each port can supply up to 30 W under IEEE 802.3at, and the switch detects powered devices and their power class automatically. Management is through a web interface, SNMP, Telnet or CLI, plus a Device Management System (DMS) that shows a topology view, a floor-plan view, a Google Maps view and live traffic graphs for the attached devices, and integration with the cloud-based Percepxion platform.

Choosing the SMxTAT2SA model and cord suffix
The bulletin lists three sizes: SM8TAT2SA (8 RJ45, 20 Gbps, 130 W PoE budget, 220 mm wide for desktop or wall), SM16TAT2SA (16 RJ45, 36 Gbps, 250 W) and SM24TAT2SA (24 RJ45, 52 Gbps, 370 W). Add a country suffix to the part number to receive the matching power cord: -NA North America, -LA Latin America, -EU Europe, -UK United Kingdom, -SA South Africa, -JP Japan, -OZ Australia and -BR Brazil. SM24TAT2SA-UK therefore carries the UK-style cord. Confirm the cord against the outlet type on site.
Plan the PoE budget before ordering: 370 W covers twelve 30 W devices at once or twenty-four devices at 15.4 W. A typical IP camera or access point draws less than the 802.3at maximum, but check each powered device data sheet. SFP modules are ordered separately from the Lantronix SFP portfolio. See the industrial communications category for other network products.
Installation and first login
The switch can be placed on a desk or shelf, hung on a wall or mounted in a 19-inch rack with the supplied brackets; it has no fan, so keep the ventilation slots clear in warm rooms and stay within the 0 to 50 C ambient limit. Connect the AC cord, insert any SFP modules, and patch the powered devices. Use a grounded outlet and follow the guide warnings on disconnecting power before servicing.
For the first login, set a PC to the same subnet as the factory default address 192.168.1.77 (for example 192.168.1.250), open a browser at that address and sign in with the default user name and password listed in the install guide, then change them immediately. A Mode/Reset button and system, mode and port status LEDs are described in the guide. Features such as Auto Power Reset monitor attached devices with ICMP ping keep-alive and power-cycle a frozen camera or access point automatically.
Use in surveillance and building projects
Power-over-Ethernet simplifies cabling for CCTV cameras, wireless access points, IP phones, digital signage and PoE lighting because one cable carries data and power. In hot regions, mount the switch inside a conditioned comms room or a ventilated cabinet because the rating tops out at 50 C. The DMS floor view lets an engineer import a floor drawing and place devices on it, which helps in large villas, malls and hospitals.
