KRACHT KD1 Gear Metering Pump

Description

Overview

The KRACHT KD1 is a high-precision external gear metering pump for dosing liquids in process engineering. KRACHT GmbH, the German pump and fluid measurement manufacturer within the Atlas Copco Group, designed the KRACHT KD1 with extremely small clearances and an optimised gear geometry so that it keeps a very high volumetric efficiency even in difficult combinations of high pressure, low speed and low viscosity. Nominal displacements run from 0.1 to 6.0 cm³ per revolution, output pressures reach 150 bar depending on viscosity, speed and motor power, and the main pump parts are made of hardened stainless steel X90CrMoV18 (1.4112), which allows a wide range of fluids to be pumped.

Seven Star LLC supplies the KRACHT KD1 to chemical, polymer, water treatment and laboratory users across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We help customers select the nominal size, clearance group, shaft seal and connection layout, and can quote the KRACHT KD1 either as a bare pump or as a pump-motor unit ready for integration into a dosing skid in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm or Salalah.

Operating Principle of the KRACHT KD1

The KRACHT KD1 follows the external gear principle: two meshing gears rotate inside a closely fitted centre plate, trapping liquid in the tooth spaces on the suction side and carrying it around the outside of the gears to the discharge side, where the meshing teeth push it out. Each revolution therefore delivers a defined volume, and flow is proportional to speed. In a metering pump, the critical factor is internal slip, the small back-flow through the clearances from the pressure side to the suction side. By holding clearances to a minimum and offering three clearance groups (small, medium and large), KRACHT lets the user balance slip against viscosity and temperature.

As general engineering background, gear metering pumps are chosen where a smooth, low-pulsation and highly repeatable flow is required, for example when feeding catalysts, additives, colourants or two-component systems in fixed ratios. Unlike diaphragm dosing pumps, they deliver an almost continuous stream and can be speed-controlled over a wide range, which simplifies closed-loop dosing with a flow meter.

Engineering Design of the KRACHT KD1

The pump body of the KRACHT KD1 is a sandwich of front plate, centre plate and rear plate, with the drive shaft and an arbor carrying the gears, sealed by O-rings in FKM or PTFE. Bearings are made of X155CrVMo12-1 with a chemical nickel-PTFE coating. The shaft end is cylindrical, rotation is clockwise when looking at the shaft end, and the pump may be mounted in any position. Hydraulic connections are G3/8 on the inlet and G1/4 on the outlet at the rear, or G1/2 side connections when a connection block is fitted. The connection block can also carry pressure and temperature sensors, and a heating jacket is available for media that must be kept warm.

Four shaft sealing arrangements are offered: one radial lip-type seal, three radial lip-type seals, a PTFE/graphite gland packing, or a stainless steel magnetic coupling for leak-free operation. The seal choice also sets the permissible inlet pressure, from 0 to 5 bar for PTFE lip seals up to 0 to 50 bar for gland packing. On request, housings and gears can be supplied with DLC, tungsten carbide/carbon or triple-cut coatings for abrasive or poorly lubricating media.

Key Features of the KRACHT KD1

The design priorities of the KRACHT KD1 translate into the following features:

  • Nine nominal sizes of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3.0, 4.8 and 6.0 cm³/rev, with other sizes on request.
  • Very high volumetric efficiency from extremely small clearances, with clearance groups S, M and L.
  • Output pressure up to 150 bar, depending on viscosity, speed and motor power.
  • Speed range of 10 to 200 rpm for fine, controllable dosing and minimum viscosity of 1.0 mm²/s.
  • Stainless steel X90CrMoV18 plates, gears, shaft and arbor for a broad range of fluids.
  • Shaft sealing by one or three lip seals, gland packing or a leak-free magnetic coupling.
  • Media temperatures from -20 °C up to 200 °C depending on the seal, and ambient temperatures from -30 to 120 °C.
  • Optional connection block with pressure and temperature sensors, heating jacket and wear-resistant coatings.

Industrial Applications

The KRACHT KD1 suits continuous dosing of additives, inhibitors, catalysts, colourants, adhesives and two-component materials, as well as laboratory and pilot-plant feed duties where exact volumes matter. In Oman and the GCC, typical users include polymer and plastics converters in the Sohar industrial area, specialty chemical blenders, adhesive and coating producers, research laboratories at universities and oil and gas technical centres, and equipment builders who integrate metering pumps into packaged skids.

Seven Star LLC supplies the KRACHT KD1 with matching motors and couplings and can pair it with precise flow measurement such as the VCA aluminium gear flow meter for closed-loop control. For larger transfer and lubrication duties, the KF Series modular gear pump and the KP Series internal gear pump from the same manufacturer are also available through our Muscat team.

About brand
Gear technology runs through the whole KRACHT catalog: gear pumps to move oil, gear flow meters to measure it, gear motors to drive with it, and the valves that protect the circuit. The company was established in 1911 and is based in Werdohl, Germany. Seven Star LLC lists KRACHT pumps, flow meters, valves and hydraulic motors, and sources them by type key for machinery and marine users in Oman.

KRACHT pumps, flow meters and valves listed

The listing follows four product groups, pumps, fluid measurement, valves and drives:
  • Pump technology: KF gear pumps for transfer of lubricating and other fluids, the KF-F version for fuels, and KP high pressure gear pumps
  • Fluid measurement technology: gear type flow meters such as the VCA in aluminum
  • Valve technology: SPV and SPVF pressure relief valves, the DBD directly controlled poppet valve, HV and HVF pilot operated valves and the DV B hydraulically pilot controlled valve
  • Drive technology: KM hydraulic gear motors

Where KRACHT equipment is used

KRACHT equipment serves the marine, renewable energy, process technology and hydraulics industries. In practice that means lube oil and fuel oil transfer on engines, gearboxes and compressors, oil supply units, and metering of oils, resins, paints and other viscous media with gear flow meters in dosing and test bench systems. Enquiries from the GCC are mostly for a KRACHT pump or valve fitted to an imported machine or a ship's auxiliary system.

Ordering KRACHT parts: what we need

KRACHT products carry a type key on the nameplate that encodes size, direction of rotation, shaft end, housing and seal material, connections and special numbers. An example from this page is SPV 10 L1G 1 A 12. Send the complete key and the serial or order number shown with it. If the plate is damaged, send the fluid and viscosity, flow rate, operating pressure and temperature, drive speed, port type and size, and photos with main dimensions. For KRACHT flow meters add the measuring range and the pickup or electronics required. We compare the key with KRACHT documentation and supply the manufacturer's data sheet on request.
