Hughes STD-45G Wall Mounted ASA Closed Bowl Eye Wash

Description

The Hughes STD-45G is a wall mounted plumbed-in eye/face wash with a lidded ASA bowl that opens its valve when the lid is pulled down.

A lidded eye wash that protects its own diffusers

The datasheet says the unit is suitable for indoor use, and outdoors in warmer climates, in potentially hazardous industries. The integral ASA lid is connected to the water valve, so pulling it down starts the flow automatically; when closed it keeps dust and debris from damaging the diffusers. The ASA construction is chemical and UV resistant and durable.

High flow rate aerated diffusers give an improved washing action. Twelve litres per minute continuous flushing is maintained in line with EN and ANSI standards, and the three-pronged flow regulator on the side of the unit can modify the flow if necessary. The product page notes the unit is DVGW certified, and a large universal pictogram sign on the front makes it easy to find.

Where it beats an open bowl

A closed bowl suits workshops, process areas and outdoor shaded locations where dust, grit and splashes could contaminate an uncovered bowl or block the diffusers. The EN15154 summary requires nozzle protection that does not need an extra step to remove; the lid design does that because opening it is the activation. For very corrosive environments the stainless STD-85G is the alternative.

Fit it at a height that allows a user to bend over the bowl and hold both eyelids open, near the hazard and on the same level. Test it weekly and record the result, as the standards summaries advise, and flush any stagnant water first.

Hughes model Configuration Typical use

Options and what to confirm before ordering

Listed options are an eye wash sign, thermostatic mixing valve, freeze protection valve, scald protection valve, pressure reducing valve and a handheld eye, face and body shower. Confirm the wall, the drain, the supply pressure and whether the DVGW version is required. For a unit with a built-in handheld, see the STD-25K.
