Haws 8123 AXION MSR Emergency Drench Shower, Stainless Head

Description

8123 is a Haws AXION MSR emergency drench shower with a stainless steel showerhead, a 20 gpm flow control and a 28 in. stainless steel triangular pull rod. It mounts horizontally or vertically from a wall or ceiling, so it can be added to an existing pipe run without a floor-standing post.

A wall-or-ceiling drench shower with a stay-open valve

A single tug on the triangular pull rod opens a chrome-plated brass stay-open ball valve fitted with a stainless steel ball and stem, so the full flow stays on without the user holding the rod. The valve assembly is pre-built at the factory to cut installation time. The AXION MSR showerhead is stainless steel and, according to Haws, its hydrodynamic design spreads the water evenly over the whole footprint of the flow rather than driving it to the rim.

The unit carries the 8 in. x 10-3/4 in. universal emergency sign and a test card for weekly checks. The pull rod is 28 in. (71.1 cm) long to keep the handle within reach while keeping a durable stainless construction.

Selection and ordering guide

The 8123 is the right pattern when pipe is already routed overhead or along a wall and floor space must stay free. It has no eyewash; for a combined unit see the free-standing 8317 and 8320 on this site. The 8133H on this site is the stainless-pipe version for corrosive atmospheres.

Haws notes that the showerhead must be between 82 in. and 96 in. above the standing surface and that the spray pattern must reach at least 20 in. in diameter at 60 in. above the surface; the drawing figures give the minimum head height as 82 in.

Installation and operation notes

The manual recommends a minimum 1 in. IPS line at 30-90 psi flowing pressure and an inlet filter where sediment or minerals are present. The part breakdown shows an SP260 valve assembly, SP829SS showerhead, SP200 pull rod, SP177 shower sign and SP170 test tag, and the supply can be horizontal (standard) or vertical.

Troubleshooting is short: check the main shut-off valve, verify at least 30 psi flowing pressure, and clean the rubber flow control inside the showerhead if the flow is weak.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Wall and ceiling showers are common in plant corridors, laboratories, loading bays and anywhere a worker could be drenched by a chemical splash. In GCC plants with long piping runs, check that a tempered supply is available so the water is safe to stand under for the 15 minutes the guidance describes.

The ANSI test kit listed in the options supports the weekly activation and annual testing programmes that the Haws installation guide describes.
