Hilti TE 70-22 Cordless SDS Max Rotary Hammer

Description

The Hilti TE 70-22 is a cordless SDS Max (TE-Y) rotary hammer on the 21.6 V Nuron battery platform. Hilti describes it as its most powerful cordless SDS Max rotary hammer, delivering 14.5 J of single impact energy without a mains cable, which suits shutdown work, tower and rooftop installations and any location where temporary power is unreliable.

Mains-class SDS Max drilling without the extension cord

Recommended applications on the Hilti page include drilling in reinforced concrete with 20 to 55 mm bits, hammer drilling in masonry with bits up to 150 mm, drilling holes for heavy-duty anchors with 20 to 40 mm bits, heavy-duty chiselling and concrete wall demolition. The optimum hammer drilling range is 20 to 55 mm.

The brushless motor and the 22 V Nuron batteries are the basis of Hilti’s runtime claim. Dust sealing, optimised torque transfer and a drop-resistant battery garage are named as durability measures. Active Torque Control and an on/off switch protect against a tool spinning when the bit seizes, and Active Vibration Reduction shields the operator from vibration. A power-reduction setting and a depth gauge are listed in the function set.

Battery, temperature limits and ordering notes

The operating instruction gives a working ambient temperature of -17 to 60 deg C for both the tool and the battery, a tool storage range of -20 to 70 deg C, a battery storage range of -20 to 40 deg C and a charge start window of -10 to 45 deg C. In the Gulf summer, that makes it important not to leave batteries in a vehicle or enclosed container, because the battery storage limit is lower than the tool limit.

The UAE page lists the tool as a case kit (item 2443103) containing the rotary hammer, Hilti grease and a tool case; batteries and charger are separate system items, so state the battery size (for example B 22-255, which the operating instruction cites for the vibration values) and charger when requesting a quotation. Confirm the SDS Max (TE-Y) shank on every bit and chisel you plan to use.

Cordless SDS Plus and SDS Max rotary hammers on the 22 V platform

Hilti lists the cordless rotary hammers below on its UAE product pages. Figures are as printed there (weight per EPTA procedure, hammer drilling range in concrete).

Model Weight Optimum drilling range Single impact energy

TE 70-22 8.9 kg 20 – 55 mm 14.5 J

How the Hilti TE 70-22 works

A brushless motor in the tool is powered by a 21.6 V Nuron battery. An electro-pneumatic hammer mechanism turns the motor power into single blows on the bit. The bit turns at the same time in hammer drilling mode. In chiselling mode the bit only hammers and does not turn.
