Hilti HIT-RE 500 V4 Epoxy Injection Mortar
Description
The Hilti HIT-RE 500 V4 is a two-component epoxy injection mortar supplied in 330, 500 and 1400 ml foil packs for heavy-duty anchoring and post-installed reinforcing-bar connections in concrete. Hilti describes it as its ultimate-performance epoxy, with ETA assessment for anchors including seismic C1 and C2, ETA for rebar including fire and seismic, and design data for 50, 100 and 120 year working life.
Epoxy anchoring for structural and difficult conditions
Applications listed by Hilti are structural rebar connections such as slab extensions, wall and column connections, stairs and foundations; renovation, retrofitting and re-strengthening of buildings, bridges and civil works; structural steel connections; and baseplates in cracked concrete and seismic conditions. The page also lists structural timber connections and fastening in natural stone.
Hilti states that the mortar works in diamond-cored, wet or underwater holes depending on rod specification and approvals, in very deep injections and large diameters, and at base-material temperatures down to -5 deg C. It is the first epoxy mortar qualified to EAD 332402-00-0601 for concrete-to-concrete connections, which permits end anchorages with an acting moment to be designed under TR 069 for fire requirements up to 240 minutes. The mortar is styrene-free and Hilti calls it odourless.

Working and curing times for HIT-RE 500 V4
| Base material temperature | Maximum working time | Minimum curing time |
|---|---|---|
| -5 to -1 deg C | 2 h | 168 h |
| -1 to 4 deg C | 2 h | 48 h |
| 4 to 9 deg C | 2 h | 24 h |
| 9 to 14 deg C | 1.5 h | 16 h |
| 14 to 19 deg C | 1 h | 12 h |
| 19 to 24 deg C | 30 min | 7 h |
| 24 to 29 deg C | 20 min | 6 h |
| 29 to 34 deg C | 15 min | 5 h |
| 34 to 39 deg C | 12 min | 4.5 h |
| 39 to 40 deg C | 10 min | 4 h |
The datasheet curing times are for dry base material; in wet base material they must be doubled. Epoxy cures more slowly than the hybrid mortars, so plan loading dates on the curing column, particularly in cooler concrete.
Selection and ordering checks
Confirm the element, diameter and embedment, the concrete condition, the hole preparation method and the approval required by the specifier; design baseplate connections in Hilti PROFIS Engineering and rebar connections in PROFIS Rebar. For faster curing in lighter applications compare HIT-HY 200-R V3 and HIT-HY 170. Ask for the exact pack size and dispenser on the Hilti product page, because the 1400 ml pack needs the HIT-P8000D dispenser.
