Brand:

GF Type 567 Wafer Thermoplastic Butterfly Valve

Description

Thermoplastic butterfly valve for shutoff and control in corrosive water and chemical lines

The GF Type 567 wafer-style butterfly valve and its lug-style sibling Type 578 are thermoplastic replacements for metal valves, built with the same installation length. Georg Fischer Piping Systems designed them for shutoff and control in water treatment, chemical processing, galvanization, power plants, microelectronics, food and beverage and shipbuilding, for liquids and gases and conditionally for media with solids or viscosity. The lightweight PVC-U, PVC-C, ABS, PP-H or PVDF body is corrosion and abrasion resistant, and the valve accepts a manual lever or reduction gear, or electric and pneumatic actuators through an EN ISO 5211 interface.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Confirm the medium and temperature against the chosen material, the pressure for the type of operation (the pressure rating drops with size and with actuation), the flange standard and bolt data for the mating pipe, and whether wafer or lug installation suits the line. For small thermoplastic ball valves see the

GF Type 546 Pro linear ball valve.

; more valves are under Control Valves.

How the GF Type 567 butterfly valve works

A butterfly valve closes a pipe with a round disc that turns on a shaft through a quarter turn. In the open position the disc lies along the flow, and in the closed position it seals against a soft liner. The Type 567 is a wafer-style valve that is clamped between two pipe flanges, so it needs no flange of its own. All parts that touch the liquid are plastic, such as PVC-U, PVC-C, ABS, PP-H or PVDF, with EPDM, FKM or PTFE/FKM seals chosen for the medium. Because the body is thermoplastic, it does not rust and it resists many corrosive liquids.

Where the Type 567 is used

  • Water treatment and desalination plants.
  • Chemical processing and galvanization lines.
  • Power plants and cooling circuits.
  • Microelectronics, food and beverage and shipbuilding.
  • Lines for liquids and gases, and conditionally for media with solids or higher viscosity.

Selection checklist for the Type 567

  • Nominal size from d63/DN50 to d600/DN600.
  • Body material for the chemical and the temperature: PVC-U, PVC-C, ABS, PP-H or PVDF.
  • Seal material: EPDM, FKM or PTFE/FKM.
  • Pressure rating: PN10 for manual valves up to DN300, lower ratings for the larger sizes.
  • Flange standard of the pipe: ISO 7005, EN 1092, DIN 2501, ANSI B16.5 Class 150, BS or JIS.
  • Actuation: lockable hand lever, reduction gear with handwheel, electric or pneumatic.
  • Pneumatic action: fail closed, fail open or double acting.
  • Wafer Type 567 or lug-style Type 578, if the line is to be opened downstream.
  • Markings and approvals needed on the project.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Fit the valve between flanges that match the stated standard, and centre it so the disc does not touch the pipe wall when it opens. Tighten the flange bolts evenly and in a cross pattern, using the torque given in the manual, because plastic bodies do not tolerate uneven loads. Support the pipe on both sides, and open and close the valve once before the line is filled. Test for leaks at the working pressure, and inspect the seals at the plant service interval.

Requesting a quotation for the GF Type 567

Send the size, the medium and temperature, the actuator type and the flange standard. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Same length as metal valves

The installation length follows ISO 5752 and EN 558, so the thermoplastic valve can replace a metal one without changing the pipe layout.

Actuator interface

The EN ISO 5211 interface lets a pneumatic or electric actuator be mounted directly on the valve, which also helps later upgrades from manual to automatic operation.

Reading the flow data

The Kv values in the table help size the valve for the flow and the pressure drop that the system can accept.

About brand

Georg Fischer, founded in 1802 and based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, is known to plant engineers for piping systems and for the Signet line of flow and analytical instruments that fit into them. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists the GF Signet 3-2551 Magmeter insertion electromagnetic flow sensor and the GF Signet 8550-1 flow transmitter.

GF Signet instruments listed here

The 3-2551 Magmeter is an insertion flow sensor: it is mounted through a fitting in the pipe wall, has no moving parts and needs a liquid with some electrical conductivity. The 8550-1 is a flow transmitter that takes the signal from a Signet flow sensor and provides a display and outputs for the control system. Sensor, pipe fitting and transmitter are chosen together, because the fitting sets the insertion depth for a given pipe size and material.

Ordering GF Signet parts: what we need

Copy the manufacturer part number from the label, which normally starts with 3- followed by the model and option digits. Add pipe size, pipe material, the fitting you have, the fluid and its conductivity, sensor body material, output required and cable length. Water treatment, desalination and chemical dosing sites in the GCC often have older Signet transmitters; if a model is no longer produced we ask for the manufacturer's current replacement, which for the 8550 is listed by distributors as the Signet 9900.
