Description
330780-91-05: 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor, 9.0 m DIN mount, multiple approvals
The Bently Nevada 330780-91-05 is the 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor in a 9.0 m (29.5 ft), DIN-mount build with the multiple approvals option. It is the version to specify when the installation documents call for the hazardous-area approvals listed in the datasheet rather than a plain no-approval unit.
Decoded from 330780-AA-BB, 91 means 9.0 m system length with DIN mount, and 05 means multiple approvals.

How the 330780-91-05 senses gap
The 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor excites the large 11 mm probe coil with a radio-frequency signal and converts the damping caused by the target into a negative dc voltage. Because the tip is bigger, the output is 3.94 V/mm (100 mV/mil) instead of 7.87 V/mm, and the linear range stretches to 4.0 mm (160 mils) compared with 2 mm on the 8 mm system. The datasheet describes the dc part as position and the ac part as vibration up to 8 kHz.
330780-91-05 and the approvals option
The datasheet lists approvals for the 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, including cNRTLus Class I, Zone 0 AEx/Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga when installed with intrinsically safe zener barriers or galvanic isolators, and Zone 2 / Division 2 nA, ec ratings when installed with a non-incendive circuit. ATEX/IECEx entries include II 1 G Ex ia IIC T4/T5 Ga and II 3 G Ex nA/ec IIC T4/T5 Gc. T5 applies at ambient -55 to +40 °C and T4 at -55 to +80 °C. The terminals must be installed so as to give at least IP54 protection.
These entries depend on installing to the stated Bently Nevada drawings (141092 for intrinsically safe, 140979 for non-incendive). Always check the marking on the delivered unit and the project certificate requirements.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330780-91-05
Install the sensor to the drawing referenced in the datasheet, and use a supply and barrier arrangement that keeps the supply between -23 and -26 Vdc when barriers are in the circuit. The extended linear range does not apply with zener barriers.
Probes and extension cables in the same chain should also be ordered with the matching approval option 05 so the whole system is consistent.
- Enclosure IP54 or better for the terminals
- Document barrier type and loop parameters in the loop file
- Keep protectors on connectors in humid areas
- Record the gap voltage at commissioning
- Spare unit should carry the same approval option
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
The 330780-91-05 suits classified-area projects in Oman and the GCC such as gas compression, refinery and petrochemical units where machinery protection signals pass through barriers or isolators. The long 9 m system keeps the Proximitor in a cabinet outside the zone while the probe and extension run to the machine.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.
