Bently Nevada 330105-02-12-10-02-05 3300 XL Probe
Description
Overview
The Bently Nevada 330105 probe 330105-02-12-10-02-05 is the 3300 XL 8 mm eddy current sensing element of the 3300 XL proximity transducer system, used to measure shaft vibration and position without contact. It is a genuine Baker Hughes Bently Nevada part configured with a 3/8-24 UNF thread, a 0.2 in unthreaded length, a 1.2 in case length and a 1.0 m cable with miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector.
Eddy current probes are the standard solution for radial vibration, axial position and speed measurement on turbomachinery. The 3300 XL 8 mm probe delivers a linear measurement range of 2 mm (80 mils) and is approved for use in hazardous areas with CSA, ATEX and IECEx certification, as specified by the 05 agency option.
Engineering & Design
The 3300 XL 8 mm probe uses the eddy current principle: a high-frequency signal from the Proximitor sensor is conditioned by the probe tip, and the impedance change caused by the target surface distance is converted into a DC voltage proportional to gap. The probe body and cable use Bently Nevada patented TipLoc and CableLoc construction for a robust bond between tip, body and cable.
This Bently Nevada 330105 probe is the standard 1.0 m variant with 3/8-24 UNF thread, miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector with standard cable, and CSA/ATEX/IECEx approvals. Standard probes are rated to 177 °C (350 °F); hotter installations require the extended temperature reverse mount probe 330195, which is a separate part number.
Installation guidance from the official Bently Nevada data sheet covers the mounting torque, the target surface requirements for a clean ferromagnetic surface and the air gap setting at installation. The probe tip must face the shaft with the specified gap; an incorrect standoff is the most common cause of measurement error in eddy current systems. The miniature coaxial connector mates with the standard 3300 XL extension cable, and the patented TipLoc design holds the tip in place during installation.

330105-02-12-10-02-05 Reverse Mount Part Number Breakdown
Base number 330105 is the 3300 XL 8 mm reverse mount probe with 3/8-24 UNF threads; its metric counterpart is 330106 with M10 × 1 threads. Unlike the standard forward-mount 330101, the first two fields are not selectable: the reverse mount probe is published only as 330105-02-12-CC-DD-EE, giving a fixed unthreaded length of 0.2 in (5.0 mm) and a fixed case length of 1.2 in (30 mm). The body carries a 7/16 in hexagon. Reverse mount probes are not offered with armor or with factory-fitted connector protectors.
Field C is total length: 05, 10, 15, 20, 50 and 90 for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 5.0 and 9.0 metres, so the 10 here means a 1.0 metre (3.3 ft) lead with +30%, -0% tolerance. Field D has only two values, 02 for the miniature ClickLoc coaxial connector and 12 for the same connector on FluidLoc cable; FluidLoc is rarely needed on these probes because the probe sleeve already contains the oil. Field E is 00 (not required) or 05 (CSA, ATEX, IECEx approvals).
Installation Torque and System Matching for Reverse Mount Probes
Reverse mount probes have lower torque limits than standard cases: 7.5 N.m (66 in.lbf) recommended and 22.6 N.m (200 in.lbf) maximum, against 11.2 and 33.9 N.m for forward-mount probes. Thread engagement should stay within 0.563 in. Keep cable bends at or above 25.4 mm radius and join ClickLoc connectors finger tight, never beyond 0.565 N.m. Provide a flat target of at least 15.2 mm diameter.
With a 1.0 metre lead the probe either connects directly to a 1 metre sensor (330180-10, -11 or -12) or is extended with a 330130 cable so that the combined length equals the sensor length: 330130-040 for a 5 metre sensor (330180-50, -51, -52) and 330130-080 for a 9 metre sensor (330180-90, -91, -92). Service above 177 °C requires a different part number, the extended temperature reverse mount probe 330195, rated to 218 °C at the tip and used with 330190 cable; it is not an option field of 330105.

The 0.5 m version (330105-02-12-05-02-00) is the most searched 330105 code. Like every 3300 XL probe, its length must be matched with an extension cable and a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor so that the total system length is 5.0 or 9.0 m. Codes ending in -10 or -15 are not valid approval options; check the probe label again before ordering.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.
