Measurement Principle
The Ranger Pro uses a piezoelectric ceramic sensing element in either uniaxial or tri-axial configurations, with an amplitude range of ±20g peak and measurement accuracy of ±5% (Z-axis) or ±10% (X and Y axis) at 160Hz. The sensor continuously trends acceleration (5Hz to 10kHz on the Z-axis; 5Hz to 4kHz on X/Y), velocity (5 to 1000Hz, 0-50mm/s range), and PeakDemod values for early-stage bearing defect detection, alongside integrated temperature monitoring from -40°C to +120°C at 0.1°C resolution.
Beyond overall trending values, the Ranger Pro captures full acceleration waveforms and velocity spectra on programmable measurement intervals (6 to 672 hours), transmitting this data via its wireless network gateway using the Generic Client Interface (GCI) directly into System 1 software for deep diagnostic analysis. This combination of overall trending and detailed waveform/spectra capture provides a complete picture of machine health without requiring hardwired cabling.
Engineering Design of the Ranger Pro
The Ranger Pro measures just 88mm in height by 40mm in diameter, weighing 300 grams with battery, and is constructed from a 316 stainless steel body with a glass-reinforced, impact-resistant PPS top, carrying an IP67 dust and water ingress rating. The sensor communicates over ISA100.11a or WirelessHART networks (IEEE 802.15.4 radio standard, 2.45GHz ISM band) with 128-bit AES encryption, achieving a wireless range of up to 150 meters to the access point.
Powered by a replaceable D-size 3.6V lithium-thionyl chloride battery (Tadiran or Xeno Energy models), the Ranger Pro achieves up to five years of battery life depending on operating mode and configuration, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The sensor carries CSA Class 1 Division 1 Groups A, B, C, D T4, ATEX, and IECEx Zone 0 hazardous area certifications, and can be provisioned and configured over the air via the ISA100 network or through a USB docking station.
