Bently Nevada 330780-50-00 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor, 5 m Panel

Description

330780-50-00: 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor, 5.0 m system, panel mount

The Bently Nevada 330780-50-00 is the 5.0 m (16.4 ft), four-hole panel-mount version of the 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor, with no agency approval option. It conditions the signal from an 11 mm probe and extension cable and is the usual choice when an existing backplate or enclosure already carries the panel hole pattern.

Under the 330780-AA-BB ordering table, 50 is the 5.0 m panel-mount system and 00 is not required for agency approval.

How the 330780-50-00 scales gap into voltage

The 3300 XL 11 mm Proximitor Sensor excites the large 11 mm probe coil with a radio-frequency signal and converts the damping caused by the target into a negative dc voltage. Because the tip is bigger, the output is 3.94 V/mm (100 mV/mil) instead of 7.87 V/mm, and the linear range stretches to 4.0 mm (160 mils) compared with 2 mm on the 8 mm system. The datasheet describes the dc part as position and the ac part as vibration up to 8 kHz.

330780-50-00 on a panel mount: practical points

A panel mount uses four 6-32 UNC thread-forming screws (04310310, supplied with 3300 XL panel-mount housings) and the base is isolated, which avoids a separate isolator plate. A replacement panel mounting pad is listed as 138492-01.

Because the system length is 5.0 m, the combination of probe and extension must equal 5.0 m. A 1.0 m probe with a 4.0 m 330730 extension is the usual build, while a 5.0 m probe works with no extension. The datasheet mentions 330701-00-10-10-02-00 and 330701-00-20-10-02-00 among commonly stocked probes.

Selection and ordering checklist for 330780-50-00

  • Confirm panel mounting and four-hole backplate in the enclosure
  • Confirm 5.0 m total system length
  • Choose a probe case thread and armor option
  • Confirm the approval option (00 here, no approval)
  • Check the supply is -17.5 to -26 Vdc, at most 12 mA
  • Confirm the monitor range matches 3.94 V/mm

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330780-50-00

Fix the sensor with four screws, land the field wires in the SpringLoc strip and connect the cable ends. The sensor body does not need an external insulator plate because the mounting base is isolated.

Set the gap around 2.5 mm (100 mils), verify with a slow shaft movement, and log the gap voltage. The 3500 configuration software lists the 3300 XL 11 mm system as an option only in updated versions, so check the monitor software revision before commissioning.

  • Test pin adapters 01609137 and 01609138 allow BNC checks at the terminal strip
  • Keep a spare sensor; one part covers all 5 m panel-mount 11 mm channels
  • Silicone tape is not recommended where turbine oil may reach the joint
  • Check connector protectors during outages
  • Mount away from high-temperature surfaces: sensor limit is +100 °C

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the 330780-50-00 is commonly found on compressor thrust position, steam turbine differential expansion ramps and reciprocating compressor rod position at oil and gas, power and petrochemical sites. A panel-mount sensor in a field junction box or machine-side enclosure is easy to swap during turnaround without disturbing the rail layout.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.
