Bently Nevada 125680-01 3500/40M Proximitor I/O Module
Description
The standard rear I/O module for the 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor
The 125680-01 is the Proximitor I/O Module with Internal Terminations for the Bently Nevada 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor. It occupies the full-height rear slot behind the monitor and provides the field wiring point for up to four proximity transducer channels, with power, common, signal and shield terminals for each channel on pluggable Euro style connectors.
Note that 125680-01 belongs to the 3500/40M, not the 3500/42M. The 3500/42M Proximitor Seismic Monitor uses its own Prox/Seismic I/O modules (128229-01 internal, 128240-01 external). In the 3500/40M ordering code, 125680-01 corresponds to I/O module type 01.

Selecting the right 3500/40M I/O module
The 3500/40M is offered with three rear modules. 125680-01 has internal terminations, so field cables land directly on the module. 126615-01 has external terminations and needs a Proximitor ET block (125808-01 or 128015-01) and a 129525 cable. 135489-04 adds internal intrinsic-safety barriers for proximity probes in hazardous areas and requires the internal barrier datasheet to be consulted.
When replacing a module in a running rack, match the part number already installed, since the monitor is configured in software for the I/O type behind it.

The 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor datasheet (141535) is attached. See the 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor page for the monitor itself.
For a quotation, send the part number, quantity and the monitor installed in front of the module.
How the Bently Nevada 125680-01 Fits into a 3500 Rack
The Bently Nevada 3500 system separates the monitoring electronics from the field wiring. The 3500/40M monitor module sits in a front slot of the rack and performs the signal conditioning, alarm comparison and communication with the rack interface module. The 125680-01 I/O module sits in the rear slot directly behind it and is where the field cables from the proximity probe extension cables and Proximitor sensors are terminated. This arrangement allows a monitor to be removed and replaced from the front without disturbing the field wiring, which is a major advantage during maintenance on a running plant.
Each channel has power, common, signal and shield terminals. The monitor supplies transducer power through the I/O module to the Proximitor sensor, and the sensor returns a voltage proportional to the gap between the probe tip and the shaft surface. The monitor then derives the measured variable that the channel has been configured for in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software, such as radial vibration, thrust position, differential expansion or eccentricity.
Bently Nevada 125680-01 Installation Guidance
- Install the I/O module only in the rear slot directly behind the 3500/40M monitor it serves.
- Land the field wiring on the module connectors, keeping cable shields connected according to the 3500 system grounding philosophy to avoid ground loops and noise.
- Route transducer cables away from power cables and variable-speed drive cabling.
- Use inhibit functions only as described in the 3500 documentation, because an active inhibit suppresses alarms on the monitor.
- After installation, verify each channel using the rack configuration software and a probe calibrator to confirm the expected gap voltage and scale factor.
Maintenance and Fault Finding
Most channel problems in proximity probe systems come from the field side: damaged extension cables, loose connectors, incorrect probe gap, or a mismatch between probe, extension cable and Proximitor sensor lengths. Before replacing the I/O module, check the gap voltage at the terminals and the condition of the transducer chain. Inspect the module for physical damage, corrosion or loose terminals, and label the wiring before a module swap so it can be restored quickly.
Typical Applications in Oman and the GCC
3500/40M monitors with 125680-01 I/O modules protect critical rotating machinery such as gas turbines, steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, large pumps and generators. In Oman and the GCC they are found in oil and gas production facilities, LNG plants, refineries, petrochemical complexes, power and desalination plants.

Understanding Proximity Probe Measurements
A proximity transducer system consists of a probe, an extension cable and a Proximitor sensor. The Proximitor generates a high-frequency signal at the probe tip, and the eddy currents induced in the conductive shaft surface change with distance. The sensor converts this change into a DC voltage, so the signal contains both an average gap voltage, which represents the shaft position, and an AC component, which represents vibration. The 3500/40M monitor processes these components separately: the DC part is used for thrust position and gap monitoring, and the AC part for radial vibration. Because the measurement is non-contacting, it is well suited to fluid-film bearing machines, where the shaft moves relative to the bearing housing and casing-mounted sensors would not see the full motion.
Correct system length matters: probe, extension cable and Proximitor sensor must be specified for the same total length, otherwise the scale factor and linear range are affected. When the 125680-01 is replaced, the transducer chain behind it is unchanged, but it is good practice to record gap voltages before and after the swap to confirm that every channel reads as before.

About brand
Since 1961 Bently Nevada, of Minden, Nevada, USA, has been closely tied to two things: the eddy current proximity probe and the rack-based machinery protection system. The 3500 rack is found on turbines and compressors in most large process plants.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier of Bently Nevada 3500 monitor modules, interface and communication modules, proximity probes, accelerometers and velocity transducers for operators in Oman and the GCC, with every item matched to the full part number.

Ordering Bently Nevada parts: what we need
Send the complete part number with every option field, for example 330103-00-05-10-01-00 for a probe or the 3500 module number with its option dashes, plus the matching I/O module number. For probe systems state probe series, system length and the hazardous area approval. A photo of the label avoids transcription errors, and for rack modules the firmware revision is useful.
