Teledyne 8800B Trace Moisture Analyzer – 8800 Series
Description
Overview
The Teledyne 8800 Series trace moisture analyzer measures dew point in dry process gases using the company’s Hyper Thin Film (HTF) high capacitance aluminum oxide sensor. The instrument is available in two enclosures: the 8800A panel-mounted version to the DIN 43700 dimensional standard, and the 8800B tabletop or surface mounted version in a watertight IP65 tested (and NEMA 12 tested) enclosure. Both versions share the same sensor and electronics, so the difference is only in the mounting arrangement.
The 8800 Series supports in-situ and extractive installation arrangements, with the sensor certified for intrinsically safe simple apparatus in hazardous locations. For analyzer houses and skids the 8800 provides the compactness and mounting flexibility expected in revamp projects.
Engineering and Design
Two sensor variants are offered: the XTR-100 sensor covers dew points from -100 C to +20 C, and the XTR-65 sensor covers -65 C to +20 C. The sensor is encapsulated in a 100 micron sintered stainless steel porous filter, and is rated for sample pressures from standard 500 PSI (34 bar) up to an optional 5,000 PSI (340 bar). Mechanical connections are 14 mm x 1.25 mm spark plug threads and 3/4-16 threads as standard, with G1/2 and 1/2 NPT options available. The sensor range and rugged construction make the instrument suitable for natural gas and industrial gas moisture duties.
The HTF sensor element provides an accuracy of plus or minus 3 C dew point with a repeatability of plus or minus 0.5 C, and the instrument displays dew point with an input resolution of 0.1 C on a backlit LCD. The 8800B enclosure measures 4.73 in x 6.3 in x 3.55 in and weighs 2.1 lbs, while the panel mount 8800A is 5.67 in x 2.84 in x 2.95 in at 1.3 lbs. Power is 100 to 250 VAC autoranging, 50/60 Hz, with an optional 15 to 30 VDC version. Sensor and instrument approvals include CE for EMC, UL and cUL for ordinary locations, and intrinsically safe sensor configurations certified for NEC and CENELEC simple apparatus.
The 8800 Series supports in-situ and extractive installation arrangements, with the sensor certified for intrinsically safe simple apparatus in hazardous locations. The electronics enclosure options cover control room panel mounting and field tabletop mounting, and the instrument provides analog output with configurable alarms for interface with DCS and PLC systems. Because the sensor is field replaceable without special tooling, routine service keeps the analyzer available across the plant life. Because moisture analyzers serve continuous processes, the 8800 Series electronics provide analog outputs and alarm contacts for the plant DCS, and the sensor housing design with replaceable element keeps service time short when the sensor element must be renewed.

Why Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC supplies the Teledyne 8800 Series trace moisture analyzers, including the 8800B tabletop and 8800A panel mount versions, for gas and pipeline applications in Oman and the GCC.
Choosing Between the 8800A and 8800B
Because both versions share the same sensor and electronics, the choice is mainly about where the instrument will live. The 8800B tabletop or surface-mounted enclosure suits skid, wall and field-shelter installations, while the 8800A is the option for DIN panel cut-outs in analyser racks. The second decision is the sensor: pick the XTR-100 when the process runs very dry and the XTR-65 when the expected dew point sits in the -65 C to +20 C window. Confirm the sample pressure and the mechanical connection so that the correct fitting option is ordered with the first unit.
Installation and Commissioning
Good trace moisture readings depend on the sample system as much as on the sensor. Keep sample lines short, use clean stainless steel tubing and fittings, and avoid materials that absorb and release water. For extractive systems, a modest continuous purge flow past the sensor shortens response time. When the sensor is first installed, allow it time to dry down to process conditions; a reading that keeps falling for hours after start-up is normal behaviour for a new or re-installed sensor rather than a fault. Where the sensor is in a hazardous area, follow the intrinsically safe simple apparatus requirements for barriers and cabling.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Aluminium oxide sensors should be verified periodically against a reference or returned for recalibration according to the plant’s quality plan. Readings that are unexpectedly wet often come from leaks or wet sample tubing; readings that do not respond at all may indicate a contaminated sensor or a blocked sintered filter. Liquid carry-over, glycol or compressor oil in the sample will contaminate the sensor, so install suitable filtration upstream.
Applications in Oman and the GCC
The Teledyne 8800 is well suited to natural gas dehydration monitoring at gas processing plants, instrument air and nitrogen dryness checks, and moisture control in industrial and speciality gas systems. The watertight 8800B enclosure is useful in the dusty, humid shelters typical of coastal sites.

About brand
Two different product lines sit behind the Teledyne name on this page: process gas analyzers and sensors from Teledyne Analytical Instruments, and fixed gas and flame detectors from Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection, the home of the Detcon name. Seven Star LLC lists Teledyne oxygen and moisture analyzers, analyzer circuit boards, replacement sensors and Detcon detectors, and sources them by part number for plants and utilities in Oman.
Teledyne analyzers, sensors and Detcon detectors listed
The listing is weighted toward spare parts for installed analyzers:
- 3000 series oxygen analyzers, such as the 3000RS, with PCB assemblies for Model 3000 and 3020M units and the P01962 power supply, which replaces the obsolete B70284
- 8800B trace moisture analyzer from the 8800 series
- B71875 InstaTrace oxygen sensor
- Liquid analysis parts: the CP03030 pH sensor cartridge and the S02312 free chlorine sensor
- Fire and gas: the Spyglass SG50-F-IR3 triple IR flame detector, listed here under Teledyne Detcon, and the iTrans 2 fixed gas monitor
Where Teledyne analyzers and Detcon gas detectors are used
Teledyne oxygen analyzers measure trace and percent oxygen in nitrogen, hydrocarbon and inert gas streams, for example on air separation units, blanketing systems and gas pipelines. Trace moisture analyzers serve instrument air and dry gas service. Teledyne Detcon gas detectors and flame detectors are used on wellsites, compressor stations, tank farms and water treatment plants in the GCC, wired to a controller or the plant safety system.
Ordering Teledyne parts: what we need
Teledyne Analytical Instruments parts are identified by a letter and number code, such as C70043A or B71875, and by the analyzer model and serial number. Send all of them. Oxygen sensors are selected by class for the background gas and range, so name the sample gas composition and the analyzer model. For a Teledyne Detcon gas detector or flame detector, send the model and full part number from the label, the target gas and range, output, and the area approval required. We check each code against the manufacturer's documentation and propose the listed replacement when a part has been superseded.
