Lovato LVM25240 Level Control Relay, 24-240 V AC/DC
Description
LVM25240 level control relay: decoded part number
The LVM25240 is a one-module level control relay from Lovato Electric for conductive liquids. Using three electrodes it automatically starts and stops a pump to fill or empty a tank or well, with an adjustable sensitivity so that it can work with water of different conductivity.
Decoded: LVM is the level control relay family, 25 is the three-electrode filling/emptying model in the modular housing and 240 identifies the multi-voltage supply of 24 to 240 V AC/DC. The LVM20 and LVM40 are sister models with other functions.

Values are from the Lovato Electric catalogue entry for LVM25240. The catalogue lists the adjustable sensitivity in two slightly different ways, so confirm the range for your liquid before fixing the setting.
How the LVM25240 works
The relay applies a small alternating voltage to the electrodes and detects when the liquid connects the electrodes together. In filling mode the pump is switched on when the liquid drops below the MIN electrode and off when it reaches the MAX electrode; in emptying mode the logic is reversed. The sensitivity potentiometer sets the resistance at which the liquid is counted as present.
Alternating voltage on the electrodes avoids electrolysis, and the double insulation between supply, relay and electrodes protects the operator. The wide supply range allows the same relay to be used on 24 V DC and 230 V AC control systems.
Fit in the system and related Lovato Electric parts
Electrodes and holders compatible with the relay include the SN1, SCM, CGL, PS31 and PS3S types listed in the catalogue. The relay can be combined with the BF contactors to switch pumps.

Selection and ordering checklist for the LVM25240
Before ordering the LVM25240, settle the following points so that the right variant is quoted:
- Conductive liquid and its resistance, to set the sensitivity
- Filling or emptying mode
- Supply voltage available: 24 to 240 V AC/DC
- Length and number of electrodes needed in the tank
- Contact load: the pump contactor coil or a small motor
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the LVM25240
Fit the relay on a DIN rail, connect the three electrodes with a shielded cable if longer runs are involved, and set the sensitivity at the potentiometer. The MAX electrode should be placed at the upper switching level, the MIN electrode at the lower, and COM near the bottom of the tank.
Fill and empty the tank manually once to confirm the switching points.
- Clean electrodes from scale and deposits
- Check the cable insulation
- Check the setting after liquid changes
- Test switching with a probe
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
Level control relays are used to manage water tanks, sumps, cooling-water basins and chemical dosing tanks on utility and process sites. Conductive-liquid relays are not suited to hydrocarbons or deionised water, since these do not conduct enough.
In coastal plants brackish water is highly conductive, which allows a low sensitivity setting, but scaling on electrodes still demands regular inspection.
Plan the electrode arrangement before ordering. A three-electrode set gives one switching band between MIN and MAX, so the distance between the electrodes defines the volume pumped per cycle and the number of pump starts per hour. Too small a band causes frequent starts and early wear of the pump and contactor. If your application needs separate alarm levels, priority change between two pumps or foam detection, ask us about the other relays of the LVM family rather than forcing this model to do the job, because the catalogue shows those functions are not part of the LVM25240.

Site conditions in Oman for the LVM25240
Low-voltage switching and protection devices in Oman often sit in motor control centres and outdoor panels where internal temperatures are high for much of the year. When you select the LVM25240, check its rated values at your real ambient temperature, as stated in the manufacturer documentation, and confirm the coordination with upstream protection and with the motor or load it serves. Short-circuit levels differ from site to site, so verify the breaking capacity required at the point of installation.
Standardising ratings and coil voltages across a project reduces the number of spare part numbers that need to be stocked. Keeping a small stock of the LVM25240 and recording settings such as trip ranges or ramp times shortens repair work during a breakdown.

Lovato order codes describe the product. On a contactor such as BF0910A230, "BF09" is the frame and rated current (9 A in AC-3), "10" is the built-in auxiliary contact (one normally open), "A" means an AC coil and "230" is the coil voltage. The coil voltage must match the control circuit exactly, so it is the most common detail to check when replacing one. For motors, a soft starter limits the inrush current at start and stop, while a variable speed drive controls the speed continuously and saves energy on pumps and fans that do not need full flow all the time.
Where Lovato products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Lovato components are built into motor control centres, pump and HVAC panels, capacitor banks for power factor correction, generator and ATS panels, and machine control panels for industry, water and buildings.
