Pfannenberg BExBG05/10/15 ATEX Xenon Flashing Lights
Description
BExBG05/10/15 ATEX flashing lights for Zone 1 and Zone 21
The BExBG05/10/15 is a family of three explosion-protected xenon flashing lights from Pfannenberg with flash energies of 5 J, 10 J and 15 J. They are category 2G/2D devices, which means they can be installed in gas Zone 1 and 2 and dust Zone 21 and 22. The housing is die-cast marine-grade aluminium with a stainless steel protective cage and bracket, so the family is aimed at offshore, coastal refinery and chemical locations. Seven Star LLC supplies the BExBG05/10/15 range in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
How to read BExBG05/10/15 type codes
The two digits after “BExBG” are the flash energy in joules: BExBG05 is 5 J, BExBG10 is 10 J and BExBG15 is 15 J. The final letter describes the connection box. “D” means Ex db / Ex tb protection, and “E” means Ex db / Ex db eb / Ex tb, a design in which the large connection box is in increased safety. The article number tables in the product sheet then separate 230 V AC and 24 V DC versions, each with three lens colours; other colours and voltages are available on request.

How the BExBG05/10/15 works and why flash energy matters
Each unit discharges a xenon tube behind a glass lens carrying a coloured cap. Flash energy sets the brightness: the sheet gives 55 cd for the 5 J unit, 178 cd for the 10 J unit and 226 cd for the 15 J unit, with signal reception range growing from 172 m to 348 m. A brighter unit is useful on large open plant or where the beacon must be seen over steam, spray or bright daylight, while the 5 J unit is sufficient for room-scale or local alarm points and can be mounted in all operating positions. The light source keeps 70 % of its emission after 8,000,000 flashes.
Where the BExBG05/10/15 fits and related devices
The BExBG05/10/15 is the high-energy Zone 1 flashing light in the Pfannenberg Ex range. Beside it the manufacturer lists the CWB-ATEX 5 J light in a stainless steel and aluminium design, the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX for Zone 2 and 22, the BExBG L1D LED light and the IS-mB1 intrinsically safe light. Combined sounder and light units, such as the PY X-MA series already supplied for Ex service, complement a beacon where an audible warning is also required.
Selection and ordering checklist for the BExBG05/10/15
- Choose the energy level (5 J, 10 J or 15 J) from the viewing distance and ambient light.
- Choose D or E connection box depending on the terminal-compartment protection method the site specification requires.
- Select 230 V, 115 V AC or 24, 12 or 48 V DC and the lens colour.
- Check the gas or dust temperature class against the maximum surface temperature allowed by the certificate.
- Specify the cable gland, since an Ex gland is not included, and the thread type (M20, PG13.5 or 1/2 in NPT).
Installation and maintenance of the BExBG05/10/15
The housing carries three mounting holes of 7 mm diameter and a stainless steel bracket for side, ceiling or floor mounting. Install according to the manual for the D or E type; the manufacturer publishes separate manuals for BExB G05D-P, G05E-P and the G10/G15 versions. Fit a certified gland, close the unused M20 entry with a certified stopping plug, and do not open the flameproof enclosure while energised. During maintenance clean the lens, check the gaskets and the cage, and confirm every flash at the periodic alarm test.
Typical applications of the BExBG05/10/15 in Oman and the GCC
The seawater-resistant housing and stainless steel hardware suit offshore platforms, jetties, coastal refineries and desalination or power sites where salt-laden humid air attacks painted steel. Typical locations are gas compression buildings, wellhead areas, loading arms, tank farms and process units where a flashing beacon is linked to a gas detection or emergency shutdown system. The wide ambient range, -40 °C to +70 °C, covers summer heat on exposed structures.

About brand
Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
