Pfannenberg Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX Flashing Light 7.5 J
Description
Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX xenon flashing light for Zone 2 and Zone 22
The Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX is a xenon flashing light from Pfannenberg designed as a visual alarm in areas where an explosive atmosphere is possible but not expected in normal operation. It is rated for gas Zone 2 and dust Zone 22, delivers 7.5 J of flash energy in a compact 130 x 130 x 130 mm polycarbonate housing, and can be used indoors and outdoors. Seven Star LLC supplies the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains how the type is organised so that an RFQ can be written correctly the first time.
Reading the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX designation
The name combines a family, a size and an approval statement. “Quadro” is the square-housing signalling family, “F12” identifies the 7.5 J xenon flash module, and “3G/3D” states the ATEX equipment category: 3G for gas atmospheres (Zone 2) and 3D for dust atmospheres (Zone 22). The ordering table in the product sheet then splits the device by supply and lens colour, with 230 V AC and 24 V DC versions each offered in several lens colours. A 115 V AC version is also listed in the data table.

How the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX produces its signal
A xenon flash tube is discharged through a lens that spreads the light sideways, which gives a very bright pulse with strong attention value compared with a steady lamp. The product sheet gives the light-source life as 70 % of initial light emission after 8,000,000 flashes, and the inrush current is limited (below 7 A for 150 µs on AC versions and below 5 A for 2 ms on 24 V DC), which matters when many beacons are switched from one relay or a PLC output module. A terminal arrangement lets additional flashing lights be supplied from the same connection point.
Where the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX fits and related devices
The Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX is the xenon option in the Zone 2 and 22 part of the Pfannenberg Ex signalling range. The same Quadro housing is also made as the Quadro LED-HI 3G/3D, an LED multi-function light with 75 cd and selectable operating modes, and as the Quadro LED-RGB 3G/3D. For Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty the manufacturer lists different devices, such as the CWB-ATEX and the BExBG 05/10/15 flashing lights. Choose the F12 when a classic high-energy xenon flash is wanted and the area is classified Zone 2 or 22.
Selection and ordering checklist for the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX
- Confirm the hazardous area classification: Zone 2 and Zone 22 only for this category 3G/3D device.
- Check the required gas temperature class and, for dust, that the ambient and dust-layer conditions stay within the +105 °C surface temperature limit stated.
- Select the supply: 230 V AC, 115 V AC or 24 V DC, and check the available current on the alarm circuit.
- Select the lens colour and decide whether the red housing option (RAL 3000) is wanted.
- Assess mechanical exposure: the sheet notes the light is suitable for a low degree of mechanical danger and must be mounted with enough impact protection.
- If the 24 V DC EN 54-23 or CNBOP marked versions are needed for fire alarm use, state this in the RFQ.
Installation and maintenance of the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX
The housing is fixed with four M4 x 20 screws through mounting holes of 4.5 mm diameter on a 113 mm pitch, and the unit can be mounted in any position. Use an Ex-suitable cable gland in the M20 x 1.5 entry and close the unused entry with the supplied blanking plug so that the IP 66 rating is preserved. Terminate to the cage clamp terminals, observing the 0.08 to 2.5 mm² range. Fit the device out of reach of knocks, since the manufacturer states that a protective cage is not mandatory but that impact protection must be considered. Test the flash function at commissioning, keep lenses free from dust and chemical film, and plan replacement against the stated light-source life.
Typical applications of the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the Gulf the Quadro F12-3G/3D ATEX suits visual alarm points on Zone 2 process units, gas metering and compressor areas, fuel storage and loading bays, pump stations, petrochemical utility blocks and dusty bulk handling where Zone 22 applies. The upper ambient limit of +45 °C should be compared with the real shade temperature and solar load at the installation point, because exposed outdoor positions in summer can exceed it. Where the site is hotter or the area is Zone 1, a different device from the Ex signalling range should be considered.

About brand
Pfannenberg is the German maker of thermal management and signalling products for electrical enclosures and industry: filter fans, cooling units, air-to-water heat exchangers, chillers, heaters, sirens and beacons. Otto Pfannenberg, an electrical engineer, founded the company in Hamburg in 1954, and in 1958 he invented the filter fan to stop components in control cabinets from overheating. Pfannenberg is still family-owned and headquartered in Hamburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Pfannenberg signalling devices and enclosure climate products for panel builders and plant engineers in Oman and the GCC.
