Hach FP360 sc Online Oil-in-Water Sensor, UV Fluorescence

Description

Hach FP360 sc online oil-in-water sensor using UV fluorescence

The Hach FP360 sc is a submersible online sensor that detects oil in water by UV fluorescence. It measures the fluorescence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which are present in most mineral oils, and turns that signal into a continuous reading of oil contamination in process, industrial or surface water. It is a digital sc sensor that plugs into the Hach sc200 or sc1000 controller. Seven Star LLC supplies the FP360 sc in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains the measurement, the ordering variants and the points to confirm before an RFQ.

How the FP360 sc detects oil

A miniature xenon flashlamp with an interference filter irradiates the sample at 254 nm. PAH molecules emit fluorescent light at 360 nm, and a UV photodiode with an interference filter measures its intensity, which is proportional to the PAH concentration. The sensor compensates for daylight and flashlamp intensity fluctuations. As PAHs are components of most mineral oils, the signal indicates the presence of oil, and with calibration it can be used to measure oil concentration in stable matrices. The manufacturer states that the detection method is not affected by interference from turbid water or natural organic and biological matter that impacts online light-scattering, UV absorbance and visible-fluorescence instruments.

Choosing the FP360 sc order variant

The data sheet lists twelve order codes, which differ in four choices. The range is 500 ppb (codes LXV441.99.1xxxx) or 5,000 ppb (LXV441.99.2xxxx). The body is stainless steel (code digit 1 in the first position after the range digit) or titanium (digit 2). The cable is 10 m (32.8 ft) or 1.5 m (5 ft), and the sensor is supplied with or without an automatic cleaning unit. For example, LXV441.99.11102 is the 500 ppb stainless steel version with a 10 m cable and no cleaning unit, while LXV441.99.22202 is the 5,000 ppb titanium version with a 10 m cable and a cleaning unit. A stainless steel chain mount kit (LZX914.99.11110) and an FP360 sc flow cell with mounting panel (LZY669) are listed accessories.

Maintenance and controller connection

The sensor has no tubes, pumps or valves that can foul. The manufacturer limits routine maintenance to occasional wiping of the measurement window, calibration once every two years and replacement of the xenon lamp every four years. The sensor connects to the sc200 Universal Controller or the sc1000 Controller, which can read up to eight Hach digital sensors in any combination, including turbidity, suspended solids, pH/ORP, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, ammonium, phosphate and nitrate. Because the sensor is plug-and-play, there is no complicated wiring or setup procedure.

Selection and ordering checklist for the FP360 sc

  • Expected oil concentration: choose the 500 ppb or the 5,000 ppb range.
  • Oil type: PAH fluorescence varies between oils, so a process calibration with grab samples is recommended for concentration readings.
  • Sample conditions: pH of 4 or higher, 1 to 40 °C and a maximum of 30 bar at the probe.
  • Housing: stainless steel 316Ti for general service or titanium where chloride or seawater exposure makes it preferable.
  • Cable length and whether an automatic cleaning unit is needed for fouling water.
  • Mounting hardware: chain mount kit or flow cell.
  • Controller: sc200 or sc1000 with the correct communication and output options.

Installation and commissioning

Mount the probe where the sample is representative and flows past the window, away from air bubbles and from sediment that can settle on the optics. Use the chain mount for basins or the flow cell for a sample line. After connecting to the controller, verify the reading with a clean water blank and with a known standard, and then compare with laboratory grab samples to set a process calibration if concentration values are required. Record the date of the lamp installation so that the four-year replacement is scheduled. The data sheet also refers to a user instruction on the turbidity correction formula for the probe, which is useful in water with high solids.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Typical uses in the region include oily water and produced water treatment, oil-water separator and API separator outlets, cooling water return lines and heat exchanger leak detection in refineries and power plants, condensate return monitoring, port and terminal runoff, and effluent discharge compliance on industrial sites. A continuous reading gives early warning of an oil leak into a water circuit and avoids the long delay between a grab sample and the laboratory result.

About brand

Hach is the American specialist in water quality analysis: spectrophotometers and reagents, laboratory meters, online analysers for chlorine, turbidity, nutrients and dissolved oxygen, and controllers. Clifford and Kathryn (Kitty) Hach founded the company in 1947 in Ames, Iowa, with USD 15,000 that Clifford had earned from a patent, and their first success was a simplified titration test for water hardness. Hach moved its headquarters to Loveland, Colorado, in 1978, was acquired by Danaher in 1999, and is now part of Veralto.

Seven Star LLC lists Hach online analyzers, controllers, sensors, portable meters and reagents, and sources them for water, wastewater, power and process plants in Oman.

Ordering Hach products: what we need

Hach identifies every item by a catalog number, for example LXV416.99.20001 for a sensor or 21055-69 for a reagent pack, and the same reagent may be written with or without the dash. Send that number and the quantity. For analyzers and controllers, add the parameter and range, sample conditions, power supply, outputs and communication option. For sensors, tell us the controller model they will connect to and the cable length. For reagents, name the instrument and method so pack size and range can be confirmed against Hach documentation.

Facts checked against Hach's published company history, October 2026.
