ETS 12.5: the smallest ETS stepper expansion valve in the 12.5 to 400 series
Danfoss 034G4209 is an ETS 12.5 electric expansion valve. A bipolar stepper motor positions the needle in 2625 full steps, so a controller can set refrigerant flow precisely instead of relying on a thermostatic bulb. The valve has 1/2 in ODF solder connections, a copper connection material, and a bi-flow design with an embossed two-way arrow.
The data show a rated capacity of 43 kW on R404A/R507A, 45 kW on R134a, 57 kW on R22, 63 kW on R407C and 70 kW on R410A at the Danfoss rating conditions of 32 C condensing, 5 C evaporating and 28 C liquid, with the valve fully open. Capacity, control and compatible controllers
The full-travel time is 8.5 to 17 s depending on the drive method, and the valve accepts either current drive (1.3 W maximum) or voltage drive (5.5 W maximum) from the controller. Danfoss lists the EKE 1A, EKE 1B and EKE 1C controllers as compatible, and the page shows IP67 with an M12 four-pin connector, which suits outdoor air-conditioning units and display-case manifolds.
Compared with the ETS 25, the ETS 12.5 has the smaller flow area and a 1/2 in connection, so it matches small to medium evaporators. The needle is not balanced on this valve (the page shows balanced port: no), which is why the MaxOPD value is given for both forward and reverse flow.
Wiring, installation and checks before ordering
Connect the M12 plug to a driver that matches the motor data: 2-phase bipolar, peak phase current 141 mA, RMS 100 mA and a coil resistance of 0.1 kOhm on the datasheet table, supplied with 11.5 to 13.8 V DC. Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
