ISE30A-01-N-M is a 2-color display, high-precision digital pressure switch from the SMC ZSE30A(F)/ISE30A series. The ISE30A version measures positive pressure and a little vacuum, over a rated range of -0.100 to 1.000 MPa. It shows the pressure on a 4-digit display that turns red or green with the output state, so an operator can see at a glance whether a line is inside its limits.

The code reads ISE30A (positive-pressure type), 01 (R1/8 piping, with an M5 female thread), N (NPN open collector, one output) and M (fixed SI unit display, kPa and MPa only). No lead wire, bracket or panel-mount adapter is included because the option fields are blank; these are ordered as separate parts such as the lead wire with connector ZS-38-3L.

The settings of one master switch can be copied to as many as ten slave units, which saves time and avoids input mistakes when a machine has many identical measuring points. Setting itself takes three steps. The display can be locked with a secret code, and a power-saving mode that turns off the monitor reduces consumption by up to 20%, according to the catalogue.

The brackets allow mounting in four orientations, and units can be mounted side by side without clearance in a panel. The fitting can be changed later because replaceable one-touch fittings for 4 mm, 6 mm and 1/4 inch tube are sold as options.

Wiring and use notes

This code has an NPN output. It switches to the 0 V side, so it must be matched with an input module of the correct polarity; the PNP versions use the letter P. Output type A or B gives two outputs, and the analog types are made to order. If the pressure fluctuates around the set value, widen the hysteresis so that the output does not chatter.

The switch is for air and non-corrosive, non-flammable gases only. It is not for liquids, and IP40 means it should be mounted in a panel or a protected location, not in a washdown area.

ISE30A-01-N-M Status & Successor

SMC has discontinued the ZSE30A(F)/ISE30A series. The current successor for positive pressure is the SMC ISE20 series (ZSE20 and ZSE20F for vacuum and compound pressure), which SMC introduced as the new models of this family. The ISE30A-01-N-M information on this page is given for maintenance and replacement of existing installations. When you change to the successor, check the piping, output type, connector and mounting dimensions against the ISE20 catalogue, because they are not automatically identical.

How the ISE30A-01-N-M Works

A silicon piezoresistive sensor element measures the line pressure and the internal circuit compares it with the set value. When the pressure passes the set point, the NPN open collector output switches on and the display colour changes, so the operator can see the output state from a distance. In hysteresis mode the output switches at the set value and resets after the hysteresis band. In window comparator mode it is on only while the pressure is inside a band between two set values.

Other functions listed by SMC are auto-preset (the switch calculates a set value from the measured pressure), display calibration within ±5% of the reading, peak and bottom value display, key lock with an optional secret code, zero clear, display resolution change from 1/1000 to 1/100, and the copy function through the ZS-38-U lead wire unit for up to ten units.

Installation & Maintenance

• Hold the metal port with a spanner when tightening the R1/8 thread; never turn the body.
• Keep the pressure within the rated range; accuracy is not guaranteed in the extended set range.
• Perform zero clear with the port open to atmosphere.
• An overcurrent error appears if the load current reaches 80 mA or more; remove the cause and restart the power.
