Brand:

Ansul INERGEN Clean Agent Fire Suppression System

Description

An inert gas clean agent made from gases in the air

The Ansul INERGEN fire suppression system protects enclosed spaces with INERGEN clean agent, which the manufacturer describes as non-synthetic and composed of the gases people breathe: nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide. On discharge the agent floods the room and stays suspended while it suppresses the fire. Ansul reports performance testing in which INERGEN agent suppressed a Class A fire in 22 seconds and a Class B fire in 17 seconds, inside the one-minute discharge allowance of NFPA 2001.

Where it is used

The brochure lists automated tape storage libraries, clean and specialty manufacturing, computer and data processing facilities, control rooms, cultural and historical sites, data centers, hospitals and major medical facilities, libraries and archives, marine, offshore and naval spaces, mining, museums and art galleries, power generation, and telecommunication facilities. In these spaces water or powder would damage equipment or records, and a residue-free gas leaves the contents usable after an incident.

Ansul describes the agent as safe for people because extinguishing concentrations leave the oxygen supply to the brain equal to an ordinary atmosphere, and because the discharge does not produce a fog that hides escape routes. Even so, a gas system is designed per enclosure, and the design concentration, hold time and venting are set by the system designer against the applicable standard.

What to confirm before ordering

This brochure does not list container sizes, working pressure or hardware part numbers. Confirm the enclosure volume and leakage, the minimum temperature, the number of hazards served from one bank, the detection scheme and the approval needed for the project. INERGEN iFLOW and IGS-300 are separate pages for regulated-flow systems.

Documents and quotation

The attached file is the Ansul INERGEN Fire Suppression Systems product overview (form F-2012091-03_A4, 2 pages). It is a marketing overview, not a design manual, so hardware part numbers and design limits must come from the manufacturer design documents. For a quotation send the hazard or protected volume, the number of enclosures and the site standard. See Fire Fighting for related fire protection equipment.

About brand

Ansul is a fire protection brand of Johnson Controls, based in Marinette, Wisconsin, USA. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes Ansul clean agent, carbon dioxide, dry chemical and restaurant fire suppression systems against project requirements.

Ansul fire suppression systems

The manufacturer brochures describe INERGEN and SAPPHIRE clean agent systems, FM-200, high pressure carbon dioxide, the A-101 dry chemical system for vehicles and the R-102 restaurant system. AUTOPULSE control panels with smoke, heat and flame detectors release the gaseous systems, and a lithium-ion risk prevention system watches battery racks for off-gases. Each product page on this site carries the manufacturer brochure so the stated features, approvals and applications can be checked against the source document.

Choosing an Ansul system

The right agent depends on the hazard: clean agents for electronics and archives, carbon dioxide for machinery spaces and flammable liquids, dry chemical for mobile equipment and liquid agent for commercial kitchens. Send the protected volume, the hazard and the project standard so the system can be matched to the manufacturer design documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is INERGEN agent made of?
Nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide, gases found in the air.
Does INERGEN leave residue?
Ansul describes it as clean and non-conductive, with no corrosive decomposition products.
Can it be used in occupied rooms?
Ansul states it is nontoxic and does not reduce oxygen below levels needed to stay safe at extinguishing concentrations; design per the applicable standard.
Which control panel does Ansul pair with it?
AUTOPULSE microprocessor control panels with smoke, heat and flame detectors.
Does the brochure give cylinder sizes?
No. Send the enclosure volume and hazard details so the design and hardware can be confirmed.
