Task Force Tips Monsoon RC Y4-E21A 2000 GPM Remote Monitor

Description

The Task Force Tips Monsoon RC Y4-E21A is an electric remote-controlled master-stream monitor rated for flows up to 2000 gpm (7600 L/min). It is the pumper version of the Monsoon family: a 4 in (100 mm) ANSI 150 / DN100 PN16 rigid flange inlet, a 3.5 in (90 mm) NH male rigid outlet, a factory-fitted monitor-mounted control station with 3 in handwheel overrides, and an RS485 interface for remote panels and programming.

The Monsoon is built around a patented segmented waterway that makes very few turns, which TFT credits for low friction loss and a far-reaching stream. The unit is aimed electrically through 450 degrees of horizontal rotation and from 45 degrees below to 90 degrees above horizontal, which suits permanent installations on tanker decks, pumpers and industrial platforms where an operator should not stand next to the nozzle.

Ordering and inlet options

The code Y4-E21A fixes the pumper RC body, the 4 in flange and the 3.5 in NH outlet. The manual shows other inlet options on the Monsoon platform: 3 in ANSI 150, 6 in ANSI 150, DN80 PN16, DN100 PN16, NPT and BSP male choices, and direct connection to Extend-A-Gun RC3 and RC4. Outlets can be 3.5 in NH, BSP or NPSH male, 4 in BSP male, or 2.5 in NH, BSP or NPSH male. Ladder and platform RC variants have a smaller swing radius and factory horizontal stops at 90 degrees left and right (180 degrees total), so do not confuse them with this pumper code.

Flange data from the manual: the ANSI 150 4 in flange is 9.0 in (230 mm) outside diameter on a 7.5 in (190 mm) bolt circle with eight 5/8 in bolts, and the DN100 PN16 flange is 8.7 in (220 mm) on a 7.1 in (180 mm) circle with eight 16 mm bolts. Bolt torque is 76 to 80 ft-lb (100 to 110 N-m), applied in three passes.

Installation and operation notes

The mounting structure must withstand the internal pressure and a nozzle reaction up to 1500 lb (700 kg); the manual says to use rigid support members and not to use plastic flanges or pipe, and recommends flat flanges with a ring gasket per ASME 16.21 or ISO 7483. On vehicles the monitor is often the highest point, so check its stowed height before passing under doors. The manual recommends parking the nozzle against a bracket or a travel stop to take backlash out of the gear drive; park position is programmed per the LIY-500 electrical manual.

If the electrical system fails, remove the cover from the override shafts and turn them with an 11/16 in (18 mm) wrench or the supplied knobs. The manual cautions against using manual override while the electric controls are active. Salt water is permitted if rinsed afterwards; corrosion is not covered by warranty.

Applications in GCC industry

A 2000 gpm remote monitor with RS485 control fits oil and gas terminals, tank farm fire protection, jetties and fire trucks that cover large hydrocarbon fires, where the operator controls the stream from a panel or from a joystick away from radiant heat. The sealed electric drives and 12 or 24 VDC supply allow use from vehicle batteries or plant DC systems. Confirm the area classification of any electrical accessories separately; this page does not claim hazardous-area certification.

Compatible items

TFT lists panel-mount, joystick, tether and wireless controls on its CE Declaration of Conformity, together with RC nozzles such as the Ultimatic RC, Selectable RC and Master Stream RC families. The monitor connects directly to the 2.5 in or 3.5 in nozzle families, Extend-A-Gun waterways and the foam equipment in the same product group.

About brand

Task Force Tips is an American manufacturer of firefighting nozzles, monitors and water flow equipment, based in Valparaiso, Indiana. It was started in the early 1970s by firefighter Clyde McMillan, who sketched the first automatic nozzle in 1968; its spring-loaded baffle keeps nozzle pressure steady as flow changes. After his death in 1982, his son Stewart McMillan became president and renamed the company Task Force Tips.
