K25.2 ESFR sprinkler for greater storage heights
The Viking VK510 is an ESFR pendent sprinkler with a nominal K-factor of 25.2 (363 metric) and a 1 in inlet. Viking describes it as able to protect higher-hazard commodities at greater ceiling heights with lower end-head pressures, to reduce or eliminate a system fire pump and to remove in-rack sprinklers for specified storage up to 40 ft (12.2 m) with ceilings up to 45 ft (13.7 m) under UL, or 45 ft (13.7 m) with ceilings up to 50 ft (15.2 m) under FM. Under NFPA 13 it is a Special Sprinkler as defined in the 2022 edition, section 15.2.
It is primarily intended for severe-challenge storage on pallets, solid piles and open racks, and the bulletin states a minimum aisle width of 6 ft for the 40 ft UL or 45 ft FM storage cases. cULus lists it for cartoned nonexpanded Group A plastics and FM Approves it for cartoned unexpanded plastics.

Ordering and installation points
For example, 12080AC is a VK510 with brass finish and the 165 °F element, for ambient ceiling temperatures up to 100 °F (38 °C). The sprinkler wrench is 13635W/B, using side B. Viking requires the pipe to be in place and supported before sprinklers are installed, forbids using the deflector or fusible element to start the thread and says the protective caps must be removed by hand before the system goes into service.
The design columns specify 8 to 10 ft spacing, 64 to 100 sq ft per sprinkler and a deflector at least 36 in above the storage top.
