Task Force Tips QuadraFog FQS125PS Selectable Nozzle 125 GPM

Description

The Task Force Tips QuadraFog FQS125PS is a 1.5 in selectable-flow combination nozzle with a ball valve, pistol grip and spinning metal teeth. A spring-detented index ring selects 30, 60, 95 or 125 gpm (110, 230, 360 or 470 L/min) at 100 psi (7 bar), and the stream shaper moves from straight stream to a wide protective fog. The coupling is a 1.5 in (38 mm) NH female swivel with rocker lugs, and the nozzle weighs 3.75 lb.

QuadraFog is a very common first-attack nozzle because the crew can change the flow to match hose length and manpower without changing the nozzle. The product page lists NFPA and FM certifications for this code; the FM certificate PR464945 names the QuadraFog series under FM 5511.

Flow control, flush and pattern

Turn the index ring so the chosen flow lines up with the silver indicator pin; there is a spring detent at each setting, and the nozzle flows the indicated amount when 100 psi is at the nozzle. Rotating the ring to the Flush position while water is flowing lets small debris pass, and the operator must be ready for a jump in reaction when the ring is returned. The manual says the stream should be trimmed after any flow change: open the pattern to narrow fog, then close it to the parallel stream for maximum reach, since turning the shaper further forward causes crossover and reduces reach. Reaction is greatest at straight stream.

Selection and ordering guide

FQS125PS is the 1.5 in, 100 psi, pistol-grip, spinning-teeth selectable nozzle. The manual also describes tip-only, fixed-flow and 75 psi low-pressure versions, and 1 in models with a high-pressure option. The ThunderFog (1.5 in and 2.5 in, up to 250 gpm) and the QuadraCup foam-aspirating nozzle are related series in the same manual. Because NH is the standard thread, specify NPSH or another thread when you order if your hose needs it.

Installation and operation notes

Open the ball valve slowly to avoid water hammer and store the nozzle in the off position when attached to an in-service hose. A partially open ball valve causes turbulence and degrades the stream. Dents or nicks in the tip can seriously affect reach and pattern. The manual says the multi-expansion and low-expansion FoamJet attachments fit the QuadraFog; straight-stream reach with foam is generally about 10 percent less than with water. Test annually per NFPA 1930 and use fresh-water rinsing after salt water.

Applications in GCC industry

A 125 gpm handline nozzle is used for first attack and exposure protection at plant fire stations, warehouses, vehicle and equipment fires, and for foam work with an eductor and aspirating attachment. The selectable flow lets the same nozzle serve both short plant hose reels and long hose lays.

Installation and selection notes

Select the flow setting for the hose length and the number of operators, and check the pressure at the nozzle, because the printed flows are at 100 psi. Move the index ring only while the nozzle is shut, flush the nozzle after use with the ball valve open and inspect the teeth and the swivel regularly.

About brand

Task Force Tips is an American manufacturer of firefighting nozzles, monitors and water flow equipment, based in Valparaiso, Indiana. It was started in the early 1970s by firefighter Clyde McMillan, who sketched the first automatic nozzle in 1968; its spring-loaded baffle keeps nozzle pressure steady as flow changes. After his death in 1982, his son Stewart McMillan became president and renamed the company Task Force Tips.

FAQ

Questions about the Task Force Tips QuadraFog FQS125PS Selectable

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What flows does the FQS125PS deliver?
30, 60, 95 or 125 gpm (110, 230, 360 or 470 L/min) at 100 psi (7 bar), set by the index ring.
02What hose and coupling does it use?
A 1.5 in (38 mm) hose with a 1.5 in NH female swivel inlet with rocker lugs.
03Can it be used with foam?
Yes, it accepts low-expansion and multi-expansion foam aspirating attachments, per the manufacturer page.
04What does the Flush setting do?
It opens the nozzle while water is flowing so small debris can pass through; the operator must be ready for a change in reaction.
05What should I confirm before ordering?
Confirm the hose thread, the working pressure (100 psi or 75 psi version) and the grip and valve style, then request a quotation with the part number FQS125PS.
