Elkhart Brass X-Stream SM-2000B 2000 gpm Master Stream Nozzle

Description

The 2000 gpm nozzle for large industrial monitors

The Elkhart Brass X-Stream SM-2000B is the large-flow member of the manual X-Stream series. It flows 500 to 2000 gpm (1900 to 7550 LPM) at 80 psi (5.5 bar) through a 3.5 in NH female swivel inlet and is meant for 4 in monitors such as the Spit-Fire. Like the SM-1250B it is a constant-flow type across all patterns: the stream can be moved under flow from straight jet through a 30 degree narrow fog to a 90 degree wide fog using the large handles, and it can flow water or premixed foam solution.

Elkhart says the series is calibrated to operate at lower inlet pressures of about 75 to 80 psi, which helps where the pump or ring main cannot deliver the 100 psi that older fixed gallonage nozzles want. FM Approved 5511 is printed on the data sheet.

The data sheet includes discharge and reach tables for the SM-1500 and SM-2000 series at pressures from 50 to 110 psi, and Elkhart states that these figures are engineering estimates made with water only in still air.

Electric, hydraulic and hazardous-area versions

The manual SM-2000B has electric (SM-2000BE) and hydraulic (SM-2000HB) siblings with the same flow range for remote control of the pattern. For hazardous locations, Elkhart lists the SM-2000BE-HL (FM Class I Div 2, or ATEX and IECEx zones 1, 2, 21 and 22) and the SM-2000BE-HLGM with a 120 degree fog for gas mitigation. Electric versions have sealed connectors and motors with a manual override.

For hand-operated monitors the manual SM-2000B is the simplest choice and has no electrical parts to maintain.

Sizing the supply

At 2000 gpm the nozzle reaction and the pressure loss through the monitor are large. Check the monitor friction loss, the pump head and the riser support before specifying, and confirm that the inlet matches the monitor outlet (3.5 in NH on the Spit-Fire). Compare the other Elkhart nozzles below.

The SM-2000B is the largest manual nozzle in the X-Stream range and is the one to compare with the SM-1250B when a single monitor must deliver more than 1250 gpm. Its 3.5 in inlet differs from the 2.5 in inlet of the smaller models, so an adapter should not be assumed; confirm the monitor outlet size and the thread type before choosing. The data sheet lists the discharge for a range of inlet pressures and the reach for each pattern, and these tables should be used for the design flow instead of the headline 2000 gpm figure.
