Minimax Carbon Dioxide CO2 Extinguishing Systems

Description

Carbon dioxide extinguishing for high-risk plant areas

Minimax carbon dioxide extinguishing systems fight fire by displacing the oxygen at the fire source and withdrawing heat. Minimax presents them as especially suited to high-risk areas where protected objects must stay available after a fire, where reactions between burnt material and extinguishing agent must be avoided, and where objects in areas with difficult access need a 3-D extinguishing effect.

Because liquefied carbon dioxide forms a thick aerosol cloud, even freestanding objects in a room can be protected, and special local application nozzles put the agent precisely on the object. The agent is electrically non conductive, leaves no residue and extinguishes even at low ambient temperatures. This page covers the engineered system family, which is quoted per project.

Technical specifications

Parameter Specification
Agent Carbon dioxide (CO2), electrically non conductive, residue-free
Storage option 1 High-pressure steel cylinders in cylinder banks with independent suspension; each suspension also acts as a weighing unit
Storage option 2 Low-pressure vessel, liquefied CO2 at approx. -20 C and approx. 20 bar, with cooling unit and calibratable electronic weighing unit
Protection types Room protection (total flooding) and local application nozzles
Multi-zone Several flooding zones can share one supply, with selector valves
Compact modules Pre-fabricated cabinet with cylinders, manifold, weighing units and gas release; control panel integrated in the door
Control Minimax fire detection system and control panel; warning time before release; warning components provided twofold on different power sources
Main components Cylinder bank or vessel, release and time delay device, pneumatic release, safety and selector valves, disable device, door release unit, horns, nozzles

Applications, safety and selection

The brochure lists rolling mills, turbines, transformers and substations, hazardous materials warehouses, machine tools, paint and varnish areas, painting and powder-coating booths, hydraulic systems, false floors and cable shafts, silos and dust filters, printing machines, engine test benches and ship engine compartments, and switching and control systems.

CO2 at extinguishing concentration can be harmful to life, so the process only starts after a predetermined warning time that lets people leave the room. Minimax designs, produces and installs its inert gas systems in line with national and international guidelines. High-pressure cylinders suit moderate quantities in little space, while a low-pressure vessel is recommended when large quantities of agent are needed, mainly for economy.

Compact modules next to the protected object are an alternative for machine tools, switching cabinets or server cabinets, connected with standard cable and pipe connections.

What to confirm before ordering

Quantity and layout depend on room volume, gas tightness, the assets to be protected and the pipe network, so a quotation needs the room or object dimensions, the hazard, the number of zones and the detection system in place. For panels to control a release, see the Minimax Clunid FMZ6000.

About brand

Fire detection and extinguishing systems for industrial plants, data centers and logistics buildings are the business of Minimax, based in Bad Oldesloe, Germany. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Oman and lists Minimax fire control panels, detectors, a deluge valve set and the MxSysCon fire control configuration software, supplied with its licence dongle. We also take inquiries for Minimax fire protection components and spare parts identified by part number.

Minimax systems the software and parts belong to

The manufacturer's program covers fire detection and extinguishing control panels of the FMZ family and HELIOS aspirating smoke detectors. On the extinguishing side it builds deluge and other water-based systems, Minifog water mist, Oxeo inert gas and carbon dioxide systems, and spark extinguishing. Panel configuration software is tied to a specific panel generation. We did not find the name MxSysCon in the manufacturer's public documents, so the software version has to be checked against your panel type.

Ordering Minimax items: what we need

Send the Minimax part number, the type and firmware version of the control panel, and a photo of the panel label. For detectors, nozzles or valves, add the nameplate data and the approval the project specifies. Minimax systems are engineered per site, so a component is only correct when it matches the original system documents. We check that match for buyers across the GCC before the order is placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does CO2 extinguish a fire?
It displaces oxygen from the fire source, and its high heat binding capacity withdraws energy from the fire.
Can it protect live electrical equipment?
Minimax states the agent is electrically non conductive and therefore suitable for protecting electric system components.
How is the CO2 stored?
In high-pressure steel cylinders or in a low-pressure vessel at about -20 C and 20 bar, depending on the quantity needed.
Is it safe for people?
Concentrations that extinguish fires can be harmful to life, so the system starts only after a warning time and uses twofold warning components.
Can one supply protect several rooms?
Yes, several flooding zones can be connected to a common supply, with selector valves releasing gas per zone.
