Reliable DDV Diaphragm Deluge Valve, Electric Trim

Description

The Reliable DDV is a diaphragm-type deluge valve for open-sprinkler and water-spray systems, available from 1-1/2 in (40 mm) to 8 in (200 mm) with electric actuation, wet pilot and dry pilot trims. Its compact trim connects entirely to the valve body, the valve resets without removing the cover and it may be installed horizontally or vertically. A pressure regulating dry pilot version accepts up to 400 psi (27.6 bar) inlet pressure. Bulletin 551 (September 2025) states UL Listed and FM Approved.

How the diaphragm valve works

The diaphragm seals against a seat machined in the valve body. Water pressure in the chamber between diaphragm and cover presses it onto the seat. Releasing that pressure, by energising the solenoid or opening the manual emergency release, lets the diaphragm deform away from the seat so water flows. A Model A velocity check valve stops the chamber from re-pressurising during flow. Because all trim is connected to the body, the diaphragm can be removed without taking off the trim.

Key features from the bulletin

  • Three release packages: electric actuation, wet pilot line, dry pilot line (with optional pressure regulation).
  • Body and cover ductile iron with red oxide epoxy and urethane coating; diaphragm fabric-reinforced EPDM.
  • Grooved, flanged (Class 150, Class 300, PN16, BS-E) or threaded (NPT, ISO 7/1) ends, by size.
  • Optional RBVG or REL363GT grooved butterfly control valves with tamper switches.

Part number decoding

The production part number follows 6507 U V W X Y Z. U is the end connection (0 groove x groove, 1 to 4 flange x flange Class 150, Class 300, PN16 and BS-E, 5 NPT, 6 ISO 7/1). V is the size (0 for 1-1/2 in, 2, 1, 7, 3, 4, 6, 5, 8 for 2 in through 8 in). W is the trim (0 wet pilot, 1 dry pilot, 2 electric, 5 dry pilot pressure regulating). X is the control valve option (none, lower only, or lower and upper; grooved only, and not on 76 mm and 165 mm). Y selects drain trim with or without alarm test, and Z the gauge range or solenoid rating (0 for 175 psi, 1 for 300 psi).

Installation and operation notes

Install to NFPA 13 where the temperature stays at least 40 F (4 C). Wet pilot lines must not run through freezing areas. For electric release valves, install at least one electric manual release near the release control panel to help commissioning. The set-up procedure drains the system, seals the diaphragm by stabilising control-chamber pressure, confirms no flow at the upper drain and then slowly opens the main supply valve. An optional alarm line test kit and alarm pressure switch PN 6990006382 are available.

Typical applications

Diaphragm deluge valves serve open-nozzle systems for transformer, fuel and process hazards, where the regulating version can hold a lower outlet pressure under high supply pressure. Confirm design basis and local approval before ordering.

Selection and installation notes

A fire protection valve is only one part of a sprinkler system, which must be designed, installed and commissioned by qualified people to the standard and the authority rules that apply to the project. Confirm the size, the pressure rating and the trim configuration against the design, install the valve in the position and orientation in the manual, fit the drain and alarm connections as drawn, test the alarm and the flow before handover and keep the inspection and test records. Check the listing and approvals needed for the project with the authority before purchase.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
