Brand:

Hilti HIT-HY 270 Hybrid Mortar for Masonry

Description

The Hilti HIT-HY 270 is a two-component hybrid injection mortar for fastening into hollow and solid masonry, supplied in 330 ml and 500 ml foil packs. Hilti lists it for fastening structural steel to masonry, seismic retrofitting and strengthening of old masonry walls, refurbishment of older buildings, heavy bracing such as sunshades on insulated materials, and glass balustrade assemblies.

Masonry fastening where concrete anchors do not work

Block and brick walls need a bonded anchor with a sleeve or a defined brick type, not a generic concrete anchor. The Hilti datasheet covers hollow and solid clay bricks, calcium silicate bricks and normal and lightweight concrete blocks. Hilti states ETA approval for seismic loads in solid clay bricks of the Rosso Vivo and Rosso Classico type, and the datasheet lists three ETAs together with Hilti technical data and a fire test report.

Working and curing times for HIT-HY 270

Base material temperature Maximum working time Minimum curing time
-5 to -1 deg C 10 min (hollow bricks, HIT-V only) 6 h
0 to 4 deg C 10 min (hollow bricks) 4 h
5 to 9 deg C 10 min 2.5 h
10 to 19 deg C 7 min 1.5 h
20 to 29 deg C 4 min 30 min
30 to 40 deg C 1 min 20 min

The datasheet curing times apply to dry base material and must be doubled in wet base material. At 30 to 40 deg C the working time is only 1 minute, so brick-wall work in hot weather needs careful sequencing.

Selection and ordering checks

The load tables are valid only for the exact masonry unit tested, or units of the same material with equal or higher size and compressive strength; for other bricks Hilti points to on-site testing and PROFIS Engineering. Identify the unit type, hollow or solid, its compressive strength and the wall thickness before ordering, and confirm whether HIT-SC sleeves are needed in hollow units. Use HIT-HY 200-R V3 or HIT-RE 500 V4 instead where the base material is structural concrete.

About brand

Hilti is the Liechtenstein construction technology company for fastening, anchoring, firestop, installation and power tool systems. The brothers Martin and Eugen Hilti opened a small mechanical workshop in Schaan, Liechtenstein, in 1941, and the company turned to fastening technology after Martin Hilti acquired a fastening patent in 1948. Hilti is still headquartered in Schaan and controlled by the Martin Hilti Family Trust, created in 1980.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Hilti power tools and firestop products, each with the manufacturer operating instructions, for contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
