Contrinex DW-AS-623-M12-693 Weld-Immune M12 Inductive Sensor

Description

A coated inductive sensor made for the welding cell

The Contrinex DW-AS-623-M12-693 is an M12 inductive proximity sensor with an anti-spatter coating on a V2A stainless steel body. Contrinex describes the series as magnetic field resistant in welding applications and as having an exceptional price-performance ratio and high repeatability.

It is the smallest threaded body in the classic weld-immune range apart from the M8, and it detects steel at 4 mm in embeddable mounting, with a PEEK sensing face, an M12 4-pin connector and a PNP normally open output.

Selection and installation notes

Use the coated -693 version where weld spatter will land on the sensor body, for example on clamps, fixtures or positioning stops in a robotic welding cell, and the uncoated -673 where there is no spatter. Because the sensor is embeddable it can be flush-mounted in steel, but the datasheet gives a metal-free zone around the sensing face (10 mm, with 35 mm in front) and a correction factor for each material, so the real distance on aluminum or brass differs from the 4 mm steel value.

Torque the lock nuts to no more than 10 Nm. Weld-immune does not mean unlimited: confirm the welding current, the distance to the arc and the magnetic field level with the manufacturer before ordering.

About brand

Contrinex is a Swiss manufacturer of inductive and photoelectric sensors for factory automation, founded in 1972 by Peter Heimlicher and headquartered in Corminboeuf, Switzerland. The group has grown from a one-man operation into a multinational company with more than 500 employees, and its range also includes distance measurement sensors, RFID systems and safety light curtains. Seven Star LLC supplies Contrinex sensors to industrial customers in Oman and the GCC on inquiry.

Inductive sensors for harsh environments

The inductive range covers miniature, basic, extra-distance, washdown, high-temperature and high-pressure sensors, as well as weld-immune and extreme full-inox designs with IO-Link. Weld-immune sensors with an anti-spatter coating are used on welding fixtures, clamps and robotic cells where standard sensors fail.

Selecting the right Contrinex sensor

Choosing a model depends on thread size, operating distance, embeddable or non-embeddable mounting, output polarity, connector type and the environment. We check each part reference against the manufacturer's datasheet, including the available types table, before quoting.
