Contrinex DW-AS-703-M12-693 Weld-Immune M12 IO-Link Sensor

Description

A full-metal weld-immune sensor with IO-Link and IP69K protection

The Contrinex DW-AS-703-M12-693 is a one-piece, full-metal M12 inductive sensor with an anti-spatter coating and a long 6 mm embeddable sensing distance. Contrinex lists magnetic-field immunity up to 15 kA at medium frequency and 40 mT at 50 Hz, which targets resistance-welding and robotic welding environments.

The sensor has a PNP normally open output with IO-Link 1.1, an M12 4-pin connector, IP68/IP69K protection and a correction factor of 1 on steel and 1.2 on aluminum as printed, so one sensor covers ferrous and non-ferrous parts.

Selection and installation notes

Choose this model over the classic M12 when you need more distance (6 mm against 4 mm), IO-Link parameter and diagnostic access, or washdown-type protection. The 25 g connector version is light enough for gripper and tooling use, and the maximum tightening torque is 20 Nm. The metal-free zone is 12 mm around the face and 40 mm in front.

Confirm the IO-Link master, the PNP input polarity and the actual welding field strength on site before ordering.

How the Contrinex DW-AS-703-M12-693 works

An inductive sensor makes a high-frequency magnetic field in front of its sensing face. When a metal target enters the field, eddy currents change the oscillation, and the electronics switch the output. In welding cells, strong magnetic fields from the welding current can disturb ordinary sensors and cause false signals. The DW-AS-703-M12-693 is built to resist these fields, with a one-piece V2A housing and an anti-spatter coating that keeps weld spatter from sticking. The output is PNP normally open, and the IO-Link 1.1 interface also gives access to the sensor from the controller.

Where the DW-AS-703-M12-693 is used

  • Resistance welding cells.
  • Robotic welding lines.
  • Clamp and gripper position checks near the weld.
  • Presence detection of steel and aluminium parts.
  • Tooling that needs a light sensor of 25 g.

Selection checklist for the DW-AS-703-M12-693

  • M12 housing, embeddable, with a rated distance of 6 mm.
  • PNP normally open output with IO-Link 1.1.
  • Supply of 10 to 30 VDC.
  • Output current of up to 200 mA.
  • Switching frequency of up to 15 Hz.
  • Ambient temperature of -25 to +85 degrees C.
  • IP68 and IP69K protection.
  • Maximum tightening torque of 20 Nm.
  • Correction factors: steel 1, aluminium 1.2, brass 1.4.
  • M12 4-pin connector.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Keep the metal-free zone around the sensing face as given in the data sheet, and do not exceed the tightening torque of 20 Nm. Use the correction factors to estimate the real switching distance for the target material and size. Connect the sensor with a suitable M12 cable and set the IO-Link port of the master to the right mode. Check the sensor after a weld cycle for damage to the coating, and record the setting in the machine documentation.

Requesting a quotation for the Contrinex DW-AS-703-M12-693

Send the sensor reference, the quantity and the welding process. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

IO-Link features

The sensor uses IO-Link version 1.1 with COM2 at 38.4 kBaud, a minimum cycle time of 10.4 ms and 7-bit process data input. It also supports the standard SIO mode, but it does not support ISDU.

Weld field immunity

Contrinex lists immunity to medium frequency fields up to 15 kA and to 50 Hz fields up to 40 mT, which is the reason for the choice in welding cells.

Choosing between distance and size

The sensor gives 6 mm of rated distance in the M12 size, while the assured distance is at most 0.81 times Sn. Allow for this in the design of the mounting position.

Sensor records

Record the sensor reference, the mounting position and the IO-Link settings of each cell.

Documents and quotation

The attached Contrinex datasheet lists every part reference of the series, correction factors, installation distances and connector pin assignment. When requesting a quotation, send the part reference, quantity, target material and mounting arrangement, and state whether a coated or uncoated version is required.

About brand

Contrinex is a Swiss maker of inductive and photoelectric sensors, founded in 1972 and based in Corminboeuf near Fribourg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Contrinex inductive sensors for machine builders and automation teams in Oman and the GCC.

Contrinex product series

Weld-immune inductive sensors include the DW-AS-623-M12-693, DW-AS-623-M18-693 and DW-AS-623-M30-693, which resist the strong magnetic fields of resistance welding.

IO-Link versions include the DW-AS-703-M8-697, DW-AS-703-M12-693, DW-AS-703-M18-693 and DW-AS-713-M30-693, which send switching and diagnostic data to the controller.

Weld-immune sensors have full metal housings and coatings that resist weld spatter and strong magnetic fields, so they do not switch falsely during welding. IO-Link versions allow remote configuration and diagnostics through an IO-Link master.

Where Contrinex sensors are used
