Moxa ioLogik E2210 Smart Ethernet Remote I/O, 12 DI 8 DO
Description
Smart Ethernet remote I/O that reports by exception
The Moxa ioLogik E2210 is an Ethernet remote I/O unit with 12 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs. Instead of waiting to be polled, it can run Click&Go logic of up to 24 rules inside the unit and push alarms and status changes by email, SNMP trap, TCP or UDP message, or, with the MX-AOPC UA Server, as active tags sent to SCADA only when something changes. That report-by-exception model cuts network traffic compared with continuous polling. The unit is also a Modbus TCP server and offers SNMPv1/v2c/v3, a web console, the MXIO library for Windows and Linux, and peer-to-peer messaging that replaces signal wiring between sites.

Key features of the ioLogik E2210
- 20 digital points in one module – 12 inputs and 8 outputs cover the status and command signals of a typical pump station, gate or small package unit.
- Active, event-driven reporting – the unit pushes changes to SCADA or an NMS instead of waiting for a poll, which suits low-bandwidth links.
- Local Click&Go logic – up to 24 IF-THEN-ELSE rules run on the device, so basic actions continue even if the link to the control room is lost.
- Counter and pulse functions – inputs can count pulses up to 900 Hz, for example from flow meters or energy meters, and outputs can generate pulses up to 1 kHz.
- Serial gateway function – the RS-485 port acts as a Modbus RTU master to collect data from meters or small controllers.
- Protected outputs – over-current, over-temperature and over-voltage protection on each output channel.
- 3k VDC isolation – protects the network side against field-side disturbances.
Digital input wiring: dry or wet contact
| Input type | Typical source | Logic levels |
|---|---|---|
| Dry contact | Volt-free relay contacts, limit switches, float switches | Contact open or closed to the common |
| Wet contact (NPN) | Sensors and outputs with their own supply | On: 0 to 3 VDC; Off: 10 to 30 VDC, measured DI to GND |
All 12 inputs share one common, so mixed signal sources should be planned carefully. The software filter helps suppress contact bounce from mechanical switches.
Choosing standard or -T version
The standard E2210 operates from -10 to 60 °C, while the E2210-T extends this to -40 to 75 °C. In Oman and the GCC, remote I/O is often installed in outdoor kiosks, pump-station panels, wellhead and pipeline cabinets that heat up strongly in direct sun. Where the cabinet is not air-conditioned, the -T version gives a safer margin; adding a sunshade and ventilation to the enclosure also reduces internal temperature and extends component life.
Typical applications
- Water and wastewater pump stations: pump run, trip and level-switch alarms, with remote start and stop.
- Telecom shelters and substations: door, smoke, mains failure and generator status reporting through SNMP traps.
- Building and facility monitoring: alarm collection from HVAC, fire panels and access systems.
- Oilfield and pipeline sites: status collection over radio or cellular links where report-by-exception saves bandwidth.
Installation tips
- Mount on a DIN rail or wall inside a protective enclosure, and supply 12 to 36 VDC from a stable power source.
- Use interposing relays for loads above 200 mA or for AC loads.
- Set a unique IP address and change default passwords before connecting the unit to a plant network.
- Document Click&Go rules and keep a backup of the configuration.
What to include in your RFQ
- Model E2210 or E2210-T and quantity.
- Required SCADA integration: Modbus TCP, SNMP or MX-AOPC UA Server.
- Delivery location in Oman or the GCC and required date.
Using the E2210 in a project
The E2210 suits alarm collection, pump and valve status monitoring, and simple automatic actions such as starting a siren on an input condition. The outputs are sink type with 200 mA per channel, so they drive small relays, lamps or PLC inputs but not mains loads directly. Plan wiring with the wet or dry contact levels in mind, and use Click&Go logic only for simple interlocks; safety functions need a certified safety device. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model; confirm channel mix, temperature range and software needs before ordering. The datasheet (version 1.3) is attached, and related products are in Industrial Communications. Click&Go rules can send timestamped messages by email, TCP or UDP, and the battery-backed real-time clock supports the timestamps. SNMP traps let an NMS receive I/O alarms, and SNMPv3 adds authentication and encryption. The unit also works as a Modbus RTU master on its RS-485 port, so it can gather data from serial devices behind it. For analog or temperature signals choose the E2240, E2242, E2260 or E2262 family members.

The choice between switch types follows the network. An unmanaged switch simply forwards traffic and suits a small, isolated panel. A managed switch adds redundancy protocols (Moxa's Turbo Ring recovers a broken ring in milliseconds), VLANs to separate traffic, port mirroring and alarms, which a SCADA or DCS network needs. The suffix on a Moxa model also matters: "-T" means a wide operating temperature range (typically -40 to 75 °C), which is the safe choice for outdoor cabinets in the Gulf summer. "-MM-SC" or "-S-SC" means multi-mode or single-mode fibre with SC connectors.
Where Moxa products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Moxa equipment connects RTUs, PLCs, meters and protection relays in oil and gas fields, electrical substations, water and wastewater SCADA, transport, and building and energy management systems.
