Moxa EDS-405A 5-Port Managed Ethernet Switch

Description

Entry-level managed switching with ring redundancy

The Moxa EDS-405A is a five-port managed Ethernet switch for industrial networks that need ring redundancy and basic traffic control without the cost of a larger platform. Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain give a recovery time below 20 ms at 250 switches, with RSTP and STP available for mixed topologies. The ring can be set with the DIP switches on the top panel or from the web interface. Management is by web browser, CLI, Telnet or serial console, Windows utility and the ABC-01 backup tool, and the switch is supported by Moxa MXstudio. EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and, on the PN model, PROFINET device management are built in.

Selection notes and quotation

Pick the EIP or PN variant when the switch must appear as a device in a Rockwell or Siemens engineering tool; Moxa supplies an EDS file, AOI and FactoryTalk faceplate for EtherNet/IP and a GSDML file for PROFINET. If you need eight ports or more, compare the EDS-508A or a Gigabit model such as the Moxa EDS-G508E. The PTP models carry lower immunity test levels than the other variants, so check the datasheet against your site requirements. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact order code you specify; confirm fibre type, temperature range and protocol option before ordering. The Moxa datasheet (version 1.6) is attached, and related products are listed under Industrial Communications. Before commissioning, decide the ring layout: one switch is set as ring master, the others follow, and a coupler joins two rings; the DIP switches and the web interface both cover this. Mount the unit on DIN rail with free space above and below for convection, wire the 6-contact terminal block with both supplies, and use the supplied RJ45-to-DB9 console cable for first-time access. Plan IP addresses and VLAN IDs before installation and keep a configuration backup on the ABC-01 tool so that a replacement unit can be restored quickly after a fault.

About brand

Since 1987 Moxa, based in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has built networking hardware for places where an office switch would fail: substations, wellhead panels, roadside cabinets. Seven Star LLC lists Moxa industrial Ethernet switches and fiber converters and supplies Moxa networking devices to system integrators and plant teams in Oman as an independent supplier. Each request is checked against the full Moxa model name before we quote.

Moxa switches and converters listed here

The EDS-G508E is a managed switch with eight Gigabit ports from the EDS managed line. The EDS-316-MM-SC-T is a 16-port unmanaged switch with 14 copper ports, two multi-mode SC fiber ports and the wide-temperature option (-40 to 75 C). The TCF-142-S-SC-T belongs to the TCF-142 series, which converts RS-232/422/485 serial signals to single-mode fiber. Moxa also makes serial device servers, protocol gateways, wireless devices and industrial computers, used on SCADA and telemetry networks across the GCC.

Ordering Moxa devices: what we need

The suffixes carry the specification. Send the complete model name, including fiber mode and connector (MM-SC, SS-SC, ST), the -T wide-temperature suffix and any coating or approval suffix. Add the power supply voltage, the SFP modules needed and the quantity.
