Petzl AVAO FAST International Version Work Harness
Description
A comfortable work-positioning and fall-arrest harness for long shifts
The Petzl AVAO FAST international version (reference C071DB) is a full-body harness designed specifically for workers at height. Petzl describes its design as specific to work positioning and rope descent: the waistbelt and leg loops are semi-rigid with contoured foam, and the shoulder straps are widely spaced to reduce neck chafing. Self-locking DOUBLEBACK buckles on the shoulder straps and waistbelt make adjustment quick, and FAST opening buckles on the leg loops fasten and unfasten without readjusting, even with gloves.
The harness combines several roles. Sternal and dorsal points are for fall arrest, side metal points on the waistbelt take a positioning lanyard used in double mode, the ventral point carries a descender or a single positioning lanyard, and a rear point on the waistbelt is for a restraint lanyard. A red indicator appears after a fall on the dorsal attachment point, showing that the harness has to be retired.

Selection and inspection notes
Choose the FAST versions when the leg loop buckles are opened often, for example when the wearer takes the harness off between tasks. Choose the international version over the European one when the project calls for ANSI, CSA or NFPA 2500 conformity as well as CE. The instructions for use warn that the EN 813 sit-harness attachment points and the EN 358 positioning points are not for fall arrest, and that the equipment loops must carry equipment only, never a person.
Petzl states a lifespan of 10 years, recommends a detailed inspection by a competent person at least once every 12 months, and notes that the fall indicator shows after a shock load greater than 400 daN. Anchor points used for fall arrest must meet EN 795 (12 kN minimum strength), and the clearance below the user, including the 45 cm elongation of the dorsal attachment point, has to be calculated for each system.
