Victron BMV-712 Smart Bluetooth Battery Monitor with 500 A Shunt

Description

The Victron Energy BMV-712 Smart is a precision battery monitor that measures battery voltage, current, consumed amp-hours and state of charge through an external 500 A / 50 mV shunt. It has Bluetooth built in, so settings, history and live data are available on a phone or tablet through the Victron app, and it also has a VE.Direct port for connection to a GX device.

Know the state of charge of the battery bank

Accurate state-of-charge information is the foundation of a well-managed off-grid or backup battery system. The BMV-712 Smart calculates remaining time at the present discharge rate, stores a wide range of historical events for judging battery health, and supports programmable visual and audible alarms. A bi-stable alarm relay (60 V / 1 A, normally open, function invertible) prevents added current draw during an alarm and can switch off non-critical loads or start a generator.

An auxiliary input measures the voltage of a second battery, battery temperature, or the midpoint voltage of a series bank, which gives early warning of one bad cell or battery. The monitor draws less than 1 mA with the backlight off, important for lithium banks that have little reserve capacity after low-voltage shutdown. Shunt selection extends to 10,000 A, and the quick-connect PCB on the standard shunt can also be mounted on 1000 A, 2000 A and 6000 A shunts.

Using the BMV-712 with other Victron equipment

A BMV-712 Smart can send battery voltage, current and temperature over Bluetooth to SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers, so charging decisions follow the real battery condition rather than the controller terminals. Check the maximum battery current against the 500 A shunt, or choose a larger shunt for bigger banks, and confirm that the nominal battery voltage is within 6.5 to 70 V. It pairs with the Victron MultiPlus-II and other products in Solar Power.

When quoting, please confirm the battery bank voltage, the shunt rating needed for the maximum expected current, and whether a GX device will be used for remote monitoring, so that the correct accessories are included. Cables and fuses are selected separately for each installation.

About brand

Victron Energy is the Dutch maker of off-grid and backup power equipment: inverters, inverter chargers, battery chargers, solar charge controllers, lithium and lead batteries, and monitoring. Reinout Vader founded the company in the Netherlands in 1975 after rebuilding and improving inverters himself, and it is headquartered in Almere. In December 2012 ownership passed to his sons Matthijs, Franck and Erik Vader, and the company remains family-owned.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list the MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 and source Victron inverter chargers for buyers in Oman.
