Brand:

Lorch P 5500 MIG/MAG Welding Machine

Description

550 A MIG/MAG workhorse for heavy steel and aluminium

The Lorch P 5500 is the largest machine of the Lorch P series of MIG/MAG welding systems. It provides a MIG/MAG welding range of 25 to 550 A with infinitely variable voltage setting, 400 A at 100% duty cycle at 40 °C, and also supports electrode (MMA) welding, TIG and gouging. Wire feed is by a four-roll drive with two driven rolls, handling steel wire from 0.6 to 1.6 mm and aluminium wire from 1.0 to 2.4 mm.

Lorch builds the P 5500 in several configurations: the A system is a mobile compact unit with integrated wire feeder; the B system has a separate wire feeder in a detachable wire feed case; the AB system combines an integrated feeder with an additional feed case; and the BB system carries two detachable wire feed cases for two wire types.

Basic and Speed XT control

The Basic control uses the “3 steps to weld” concept with easy power and wire feed regulation, SpeedArc-Basic at the touch of a button, Quatromatic mode and a digital volt-ampere display. Speed XT adds synergic control with display-guided prompting, straightforward selection of process and synergic line, dynamic control for synergic and SpeedArc XT welding, and Tiptronic memory for 100 jobs. Both accept the Powermaster remote control torch, which lets the welder change settings at the torch.

P series sizes and selection

Model Range 100% duty at 40 °C Steel wire Fuse
P 3000 mobil 25-300 A 250 A 0.6-1.2 mm 16 A
P 3500 25-350 A 260 A 0.6-1.2 mm 16 A
P 4500 25-450 A 360 A 0.6-1.6 mm 32 A
P 5500 25-550 A 400 A 0.6-1.6 mm 35 A

The P 5500 is sized for thick-section structural steel, heavy fillet welds with 1.2 to 1.6 mm wire, and aluminium with wire up to 2.4 mm. The B or BB versions are chosen when the feeder must travel away from the power source or when two wires are used on the same job. For a pulse-capable alternative see the Lorch S8 SpeedPulse XT.

About brand

Lorch Schweißtechnik is a German welding equipment manufacturer based in Auenwald, Germany, and the company was founded in 1957. It builds MIG-MAG, TIG and electrode welding machines for manual work as well as cobot and automated welding solutions. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists the Lorch S8 SpeedPulse XT MIG-MAG pulse welding machine.

Lorch product range

The MIG-MAG program includes the S, P, R, MX, iQS and MicorMIG series, with separate wire feeders such as the MF-10 full-protection feeder. Lorch also offers TIG and MMA inverters, Powermaster torches, the Lorch Connect monitoring system and cobot welding packages. Its Speed processes, including SpeedPulse XT, SpeedArc XT and the optional SpeedRoot and SpeedCold upgrades, are designed to raise welding speed and reduce spatter.

Ordering Lorch welding machines: what we need

State the series and model, the machine version (compact or separate wire feeder), gas or water cooling and the mains voltage at site. Add the hose package length, torch type and any process upgrades you need. For replacements, send the rating plate photo.
