Weflo Fig. 2502 Lug Butterfly Valve

Description

Overview

The Weflo Fig. 2502 is a lugged, resilient-seated butterfly valve with threaded lugs cast around the body, allowing it to be bolted to each pipe flange independently. That construction is what separates the Weflo Fig. 2502 from a plain wafer valve: the downstream pipe can be disconnected for maintenance while the valve continues to hold pressure on the upstream side. Weflo lists the valve in sizes DN50 to DN600 at a rated working pressure of 16 bar (250 psi), and its datasheet states that the design meets or exceeds EN 593, AS 4795.1 and API STD 609, that it is WRAS Approved and that it is certificated to ANSI/NSF 61 and 372.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Weflo Fig. 2502 to mechanical contractors, MEP consultants and maintenance teams in Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. Projects asking for a WRAS approved lug butterfly valve, or for a chilled water valve that can serve as an end-of-line isolation point, can use the Weflo Fig. 2502 datasheet as the basis for submittals.

Operating Principle

Like every concentric butterfly valve, the Weflo Fig. 2502 isolates flow by rotating a disc through ninety degrees. When the handle or gear operator turns the shaft, the disc rotates from an edge-on position in the open bore to a position across the bore, where its rim compresses the elastomer seat and shuts off flow in both directions. The seat is a vulcanized EPDM liner, so the sealing surface is bonded to the body and the ductile iron is shielded from the fluid.

The difference that matters in practice is how the valve is held in the line. In a lug body, cap screws pass through each flange into tapped holes in the lugs, which means each side of the valve is fixed to its own flange. As general engineering guidance, this makes a lugged butterfly valve suitable for equipment isolation where a pump, chiller, coil or heat exchanger must be removed without draining the whole system. The pressure the valve can hold in true dead-end service should always be confirmed against the manufacturer data for the size concerned.

Engineering Design of the Weflo Fig. 2502

Materials on the Weflo Fig. 2502 datasheet are: body in ductile iron to EN 1563 EN-GJS-450-10 / ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12; EPDM liner to EN 681 / D2000; disc in stainless steel X5CrNi18-10 (CF8), bronze CuSn5Zn5Pb5 (C83600) or ductile iron; a 431 stainless steel shaft; brass shaft bushing; NBR seal ring; and PTFE seal bushing. Corrosion protection is fusion bonded coating or liquid painting on both the interior and exterior surfaces.

The lug pattern suits flanges to EN 1092 PN10/16, ASME B16.1 Class 125 and AS 2129 Table D/E, and the face-to-face length follows EN 558 Series 20 and ASME B16.10. A one-piece shaft runs through the full disc, and the top flange is drilled to ISO 5211, ranging from F07 for DN50 to DN100 up to F16 for DN500 and DN600. For DN300 and below, the Weflo Fig. 2502 can be supplied with a lever or a gearbox, while DN350 and larger are fitted with a gear operator as standard.

Key Features

Key points from the Weflo Fig. 2502 datasheet are listed below for quick reference.

  • A fully lugged body allows the Weflo Fig. 2502 to be bolted to each flange separately for isolation of downstream equipment.
  • The design meets or exceeds EN 593, AS 4795.1 and API STD 609.
  • The datasheet states that the valve is WRAS Approved and certificated to ANSI/NSF 61 and 372.
  • A vulcanized EPDM liner forms the seat and protects the ductile iron body from the medium.
  • The one-piece shaft passes completely through the disc for positive torque transmission.
  • An ISO 5211 mounting flange simplifies fitting of gearboxes and electric or pneumatic actuators.
  • Standard rating is 16 bar / 250 psi, with a 25 bar / 300 psi version offered as an option.
  • A replaceable liner is available for DN50 to DN300, and a grey cast iron body option exists for DN300 and smaller at 16 bar.

Industrial Applications

Lugged butterfly valves are the usual choice where one side of the line must be opened while the other stays live. Typical positions for the Weflo Fig. 2502 include chiller evaporator and condenser connections, the suction and discharge of chilled water and condenser water pumps, plate heat exchanger branches in district cooling energy transfer stations, and the outlets of potable water storage tanks in residential and commercial towers. Hospitals, airports, data centres and hotel developments in Muscat and the wider GCC rely on this type of valve to keep plant serviceable without shutting down entire circuits.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Weflo Fig. 2502 for HVAC, water supply and process cooling projects in Oman, including industrial sites in Sohar and Salalah, and helps buyers choose the disc material, operator and flange drilling. The valve fits naturally next to circulators such as the Wilo-Stratos MAXO glandless circulator, alongside control valves such as the Belimo EPIV electronic pressure independent valve, and in systems that also use resilient-seated valves such as the Bray Series 30/31 butterfly valve.

Selection and Installation Notes

The following notes are general engineering practice for lug butterfly valves, not instructions issued by Weflo. Each lug is tapped, so cap screws or studs of the correct thread and length are needed on both sides; mixing flange standards between the two sides of a lugged valve is a common site error. Before installing the Weflo Fig. 2502, check that the disc will clear the bore of neighbouring fittings when fully open, and keep the disc slightly open while centring the valve between flanges so the liner is not pinched.

Where an electric actuator is planned for building automation, confirm the ISO 5211 flange, stem square and required torque at the design stage. For drinking-water projects, consultants usually request the WRAS listing reference with the submittal, and Seven Star LLC can provide the Weflo documentation for the sizes being ordered.
