Flowserve Durco BTV-2000 Lined Butterfly Valve
Description
Flowserve Durco BTV-2000 lined butterfly valve overview
The Flowserve Durco BTV-2000 (listed on the product page as BTV) is a fully lined wafer or lug butterfly valve for corrosive chemical service. A fluoropolymer or UHMWPE liner covers the body and an encapsulated disc covers the wetted metal, so acids, bleach and chlorinated media never touch the ductile-iron structure. Seven Star LLC supplies the BTV-2000 as an independent supplier in Muscat for projects in Oman and the GCC.
A companion version, BUV-2000, uses UHMWPE for abrasive service; the brochure covers both. Flowserve states it introduced the first fluoropolymer-lined butterfly valve in 1965, which gives the BTV-2000 a long field history.

How the BTV-2000 seals
The seat is a spherical ball-and-socket contact between disc and liner giving 360 degree contact, with a live-loaded elastomer seat energizer in a machined body groove. Because the energizer works independently of flange bolt torque, the line seal does not depend on how the mating flanges are tightened. The recessed liner resists cold flow and installation error.
The stem has a triple seal. The primary seal is the ball-and-socket at the disc hub, the secondary is a PTFE-covered PFA convoluted path, and Viton O-rings in the alloy gland follower stop atmospheric leakage and external corrosion. A compression spring keeps the preload constant, so the shaft seal needs no adjustment. Optional NPT connections allow sealing lubricant, inert gas padding, purge or leak detection.
Liner, disc and material options for BTV-2000
| Option | Use |
|---|---|
| PTFE liner | Severely corrosive chemicals; virgin PTFE, spark tested at 20,000 volts |
| UHMWPE liner and disc | Abrasive and erosive media with corrosion; ASTM D4020 grade; to 93 °C |
| PFA encapsulated disc | Standard for chemical service |
| Metal discs | 316 stainless, Durimet 20, 254 SMO, Monel, Chlorimet 2 and 3, palladium-stabilized titanium |
| Sentinel seats | Listed on the product page as a seat option for high-performance duty |
Where the BTV-2000 fits
The BTV-2000 is a line-isolation and throttling valve for lined pipework, and its disc swing is compatible with ASTM F423 fluoropolymer-lined pipe. It sits alongside Flowserve lined plug valves (T4E) and lined ball valves in the same corrosion-resistant range. Manual operation uses a 10-position locking lever with throttle plate or gear operator; automation uses pneumatic or electric actuators on the ISO mounting plate.
Selection and ordering checklist for BTV-2000
- Fluid and concentration, with temperature range
- Size, wafer or lug body, and flange standard (ASME or DIN PN10/PN16)
- Liner: PTFE or UHMWPE, and disc: PFA, UHMWPE or alloy
- Abrasive solids present, yes or no
- Manual lever, gear or actuator
- Need for purge, gas pad or leak-detection connections
- Vacuum duty, if any
Installation and maintenance of the BTV-2000
Valves ship with covers protecting the liner; keep them on until installation. Notches on the body centre the valve between flanges. Use flanges compatible with lined pipe, open the disc slightly before bolting so it clears, and tighten the bolts evenly. Every valve is spark tested and hydrostatically tested before shipment, with seat test at 150 psi and stem seal test at 225 psi per the brochure. The split body supports rebuild, and the shaft seal needs no periodic adjustment.
Typical BTV-2000 applications in Oman and the GCC
PTFE-lined BTV-2000 valves handle hydrochloric, nitric and sulfuric acid, chlorinated brine, bleach, wet chlorine, chlorine dioxide, solvents and sodium chlorate. In Oman and the Gulf this means chlor-alkali and chemical plants, water treatment and desalination chemical lines, pickling and electroplating, and pulp bleaching. Heat and dust call for epoxy-coated bodies and sealed actuators.
Choosing between PTFE and UHMWPE builds of BTV-2000
The decisive question is whether the fluid carries solids. In clean but aggressive acid or chlorinated service, the PTFE liner with a PFA encapsulated disc is the normal choice, and it reaches the higher temperature limit of 177 °C. Where particles scour the liner, a UHMWPE liner and disc gives better abrasion resistance but is limited to 93 °C, so a hot slurry may need a different valve type altogether. When a process swings between cleaning and operating temperatures, give both values so the liner and disc pairing can be checked against the worst case rather than the average.
Disc selection is the second decision. Metal discs in the alloys listed above are used where greater protection is required than an encapsulated disc offers. Because the shaft passes through the disc, the stem seal materials follow the disc choice, and the PTFE-to-PFA or PTFE-to-alloy stem seal is part of the build data.
